Well tonight my band just completed its third rehearsal this week, and I just ain't tired! Kinky Porcupine, which is James on guitar and vocals, and Jessica on bass and keys and me (Erica) on the drums.
The band has been playing regularly since March,('07) and before this project, well I wasn't that good of a musician, well I am critical, Jess would tell you different. But as the days go by, I keep getting better and better!
I mean it's not like I don't a freaking life outside of this, but when you finally get to do something you have loved your whole life, I just want keep things going.
I always used to fantasize about being on stage, and feeding off a crowd, and creating the intangible web of music, and I never thought that I'd get to do it. Especially when I only started to do gigs in my 30's!
My late friend Mikey Layne was an incredible musician, he always said he saw the potential in me, I always thought he was nuts! Well it's too bad that I can't share this him now, well in person you know.
So we finally get to play a club that I have been a patron for many years, maybe one of the coolest places in all of Long Island. Da Funky Phish in Bay Shore is going to let us host our own night every first Wednesday of the month. We start the gigs on 12/5, and are also booked for 1/9 and 2/6 as well. They even created a shot in our honor, I will report how they taste!
Well I am looking forward to meeting new friends, and to building a real following, this means if I meet you hear on Fubar and I invite you to a gig, the shit is real! And it would be so cool to meet people in person who you first met online.
So please come, for me personally, this isn't about money, it's about having fun and sharing music with people!
I wrote this blog listening to some live Bob Wier and RatDog from Las Vegas in 2004. A show that I got see in person! Oh wow, I just remembered that was on a Wednesday night! Good vibes I guess.
