Brilliant light shown on his face As he walked through the dark murkiness That was once his world. Guided by a desire to reach the angel, And hold her in his arms, And not for a moment, For an angel is most precious When she doesn't know she's a blessing from Heaven. He knew once he seen her, That the halo and wings were missing, But an angel nonetheless is she. He longs to hold her, And have her feel his trembling hands Slowly and softly touching her skin. He longs to kiss her lips And look deep into the soulful eyes That let him see deep within her. She seems so far away, But his heart has bridged all time and space, He would travel to the ends of the world- Fight the flames of hell- For they are not hotter than the flame she ignited in his very soul. Should he tell her? He thinks that she would only run further, Only time will tell. Each passing day, he longs to hear her voice, And desires to have her by his side. Shall he follow? He leans against the harsh winds And he trudges forward, Only in hopes to be nearer to her. His words are all he has, And he only hopes that they reach her As hers have reached his soul- Fueling a passionate desire to be hers. How long can he wait? It would seem that forever is a long time, Alas, now time has no meaning, As he has seen perfection- He has been blessed with her vision, And he shall wait forever and a day To have one moment in her heart. Harsh winds blowing as he rides Into the night. His hat pulled down over his leathery face, Just to cover his eyes. His oiled leather duster pulled up to his chin, He hides himself from the cruel world- As her love rescued him. He loves her like no man, And his love is expressed in his songs, The ones he sings under the night sky As he warms his hands over a blazing fire. The quiteness of the open sky, And the crackling of the fire, He pulls his guitar out and plays. In his song, there is sadness. In his music there is love, And the woman that he loves never hears. He longs to be by her side, Yearns to be in her arms, But he knows that he never will. His companions all laugh and joke About the women that they will chase In the next town, But he only can think of her- In the town he left behind. His heart, he promised her, And his love, he gave, And as the cattle lull themselves In the distant darkness, His fingers strum and his voice- Deep and emotional- Sing of the love that he has found. Her beauty is captured in this melody, How she touched his soul, And set it ablaze- brighter Than the fire before him. A tear escapes his green eyes, And travel down his deeply lined face. Knowing that when he returns, It may seem like forever. Alas, he has a job to do, And he's a man of his word. So, now he works in the darkness, And tomorrow, she will be farther away, Where he will not be able to hold Her in his arms, But tonight and forever, She will be in his heart And in his songs. I sit in silence, and wonder what I did wrong, As you live your life, and things go on, But I loved you truly- Just like you asked, And nothing was asked in return. An ocassionaly acknowledgement is all that I need, And all that I ever sought. My heart calls your name, true, But never did I allow my mouth To tell you. My words they are from my heart, And I never forced them onto you, But alas, now I don't hear your voice, And it make me wonder-- How can love be bad, how can true feelings Drive someone away. The darkness that once surrounded me Was driven away by your light, But now I see that light waining, As the darkness pulls me back in, And I have nowhere else to go, I have no one else to love, I was yours solely, I am yours still, Yet you don't know, And you can't accept my love. My heart calls your name, My lips to touch the warmth of yours, To feel the soft touch, To hear those words That only fire up my soul, And now, I am watching you from afar, Standing in the silence. Darkness surrounds me as I wander lost In the murkiness of lonliness of this world. The light that once was my guide, I seem to have lost, And I have found myself in a place That is worse than the flames of hell. I see you everyday and I look into those eyes The ones that let me see your soul Where I have gone, there seems there is no return. I long to hold you in my arms And wrap you in the place You once called safe. I yearn to whisper in your ears And feel your lips against mine. I see you as I wander lost in the place. I must find a way, I can't see you every day And not have you with me. Is this my hell? Have I been so wrong? To have my love ignored, to have me go unnoticed. A place where I have gone, I look into the light, but it burns my eyes, I have been cursed with knowing one so true Knowing one who I would love forever, And not being able to have you. He stands in the night, Listening to the bitter winds, Not knowing where to go, Not knowing what is to be. Yet, he doesn not move, For the one chance to see The face of an angel And look into the deep soulful eyes That leads him to Heaven. For it would be Heaven Where an angel should reside, It would be Heaven to have her by his side, But now, he stands in nothingness, Just wondering where to turn, Where has she gone, What has he done to drive her away, And will she return? Can his heart last the never ending turmoil Of not knowing true love? Can his soul endure the fires of hell Because she is not here. Can forever truly be that long to wait For perfection? His mind wanders through the darkness, Repeating all three. His heart yearns for one thing, To share this love with her. His soul shall endure- His reward of walking through hell Shall be one more day with her. And forever is not long enough For him to love this woman- This angel that he has discovered- That the world has left unnotice. His heart, soul are hers forever, And forever is not too long to wait. I wake and the first thought I have is you, My arms yearn to hold you, Yet, you are so far away. I dare not tell you, For fear that you would stay away, For fear that you would not even look my way, Alas, the words that flow, They are the truth, and always, I speak it. I cannot help the feelings that have come, And I dare not hide them, But you cannot see me, and I have but a photograph, And a dream. I only have these dreams and desires Because of you. An angel that has been placed here on earth, A blessing from heaven. And it would be selfish for me to want you for myself, The world is a better place because of you. Robert J Nye 2007

The nights have been so dark in the past And the mornings so empty, But since you came into my life, I see the moon guiding me and the stars twinkling Brighter than before lighting my way, As I make my way home to you. The sun shines brightly, As I move through my day making a life Hopefully you will be proud to be part of one day. The birds singing melodiously A song of the coming season, Knowing that it's because you love me, I can appreciate their new songs. Being in love with you, It has brought great joy-- A feeling of wonderful bliss, And I wouldn't trade it for anything in this world or beyond. It is like being in Heaven, Being in love with you. I see an angel when I look into your face. I feel Heaven when I have you in my arms, And I see an eternity when I look into your eyes. Time is our greatest obstacle, And that is something that I will surely Not hinder the love that has started. In the moment that she took his hand, And they walked out onto the hardwood floor, His heart beating rapidly And his hands shaking slightly. The moment that she smiled, And it took all his cares away, He loses himself in the moment And nothing else matters. Dancing in the darkness, He watches as she looks his way And then smiles sweetly And then quickly looks away. He smiles and blushes, His cheeks warm with an emotion, And his knees weak with a nervousness That he has not experienced in his life. The music loud and the chatter Of the surroundings clear, But to him, there are only Two people in the world-- Her in her own beauty and him in his nervousness-- As they dance in the darkness. In this moment, He finds contentment And in this moment, A wish comes true. In the darkness where they dance, She is his light, And in the darkness, He whispers songs as they dance along. Where it will go from here, They really do not know, But as it is right now, He lives a lifetime in this moment, As they dance in the darkness. Robert J. Nye 2005
