Seems I never have much time to blog. They say that after 50, it's patch, patch, patch... It is true to some extent, I guess. All that patching, less time to type! WAA! I know, where's the cheese?
Having recently (again!) become single, I have noticed a marked difference between interactions with women as a younger man as opposed to now. I am working on a set of guidelines, I think I will call it "Old Fart Dating 101" - only problem is, guys my age don't read or buy books, they are too busy worrying about how they will ever get laid again!
Just for example, when I was younger, the conversation was what clubs we frequented, so maybe we could run into each other. Now, we compare lists of daily prescriptions to see if our side effects might clash.
Another: Young - what little sexy wrinkles we like while making love. Old - who has to try to go on top!
I know, pretty lame stuff. I never realized to what extent our society excludes people as they get a little older. Let me say, if you are a man my age, unless you have money to throw around, you can forget hanging out with the "beautiful people"! You tend to be happy if your blind date resembles a human life form.
And it's even worse at work. Middle aged white guys are an endangered species. I feel like a dinosaur at the onset of the ice age! Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. Experience and wisdom is no longer a commodity, it's a liability. Who the hell can afford to retire these days either? Not this kid!
Even your kids treat you like some sort of museum piece, getting in touch when they need to know anything about "way back when." Or need money.
So, it feels like the old west, when they had to drive the cattle across country to the railroads. The cattle are happy to be off the trail, well fed and comfortable. Next thing you know, you're being driven down the chute to face the big hammer! MOO!
All I know is, if I see any narrow fenced passages, I am going to start a riot and get the hell out of Dodge! The world might be trying to force me out to pasture, but that doesn't mean I have to volunteer to go!
