So last night in a attempt to become "more social" I went out to a local drinking establishment. It's a pretty hip place,ironically enough populated by hipster types. Well the law in the people's republic of new jersey states that you can't smoke in bars.Fair enough, so we go outside (and smoke there too..rimshot!) 
I held the door for some girls/women/whatevers and one said "I can do it myself". I was like "Ummm ok". The woman in question then was looking through her purse for a lighter. I offered my book of matches and she gave me the "look". Yikes.
I grew up addressing people as "sir" or "ma'am", holding doors for people, saying "good morning". I guess it's me getting older (soon to reach = get off my lawn you damn kids - phase) but people seem more,well, jaded and cold. I don't expect live to be like a episode of "The andy griffith show" but people are so damn mean.
