As I lay broken into what feels like a million little pieces on the uneven playing fields of love, I peer up into the shadows of Justice. She stands there, majestic as she hoists her mighty scales of balance with her beautiful flowing robes whipping around her proud full feminine form in the midst of the whirlwind of turmoil derived by my emotional angst.
She begins to speak to me in her always reasonable voice, almost void of any humanity due to her seemingly callous, yet fair, judgement of life "I heard from Irony that you have befriended Complacency, before your friendship becomes too settled and dependant I should tell you about your new friend so you understand the choices you have set forth upon with this course of action."
Somberly she continues, "You see my dear child Complacency befriends those who are fearful of change. She seeks out those whom she knows will fit within her ideals and not step outside of the boundaries. She adores and coddles those afraid to take a risk for what they truly want and often need with ideas that they are 'doing the right thing', often her friends find that in reality time has slipped away and her true colours shine through to a barren, stark truth...LIFE has passed them by as they spin their proverbial wheels in the mire of everyday life." Continuing on she recounts numerous stories of Complacency and her misadventures amongst the human race. "Complacency is more than happy to allow you to cling to a false sense of security, false ideals and dreams that will never be realised as long as she is your friend. Complacency wants you close to her at all times. Settling for a life un-lived at its fullest potential. Settling for less than the love you deserve. Being unable to breathe for fear that someone will see that you are truly not happy but merely surviving."
Thinking carefully over Justice's powerfully pointed words, as they ring in my ears with a sting of Truth, I summon the courage to ask of Justice how she knew to find me where I had fallen along the path. After all Justice is blind, regardless of her mighty will my fall had been so long and unstoppable into the abyss that I can barely see light myself.
Laughingly she told me that Irony had been all to willing to share the series of events with those who would listen. After all, mere mortals failures and successes are great topics of conversation amongst the Lady Justice and her Court.
Irony had pointed the way to one she felt needed guidance. "What does Irony gain from my success or failure?" I begged of Justice. In her saddened voice Justice told me "I knew exactly where you landed dear Muse, the closer I came the more my scales tipped and I knew it was you as many times before." Blinking back the tears that Justice had wrought with her words I lifted my head to her blind-folded face. "You see dear Muse, in the grander scheme of your years on Earth you will encounter many a friend and more so the foes. Each you must face head on with the assured nature of your inner convictions that you live each moment of life that has been given to you for YOU. Not at others expectations or because you 'think' it is the required thing to do to keep up a charade. That is how you know you have not only befriended Irony but also Complacency."
As she extended her mighty hand to mine, she adjusted the balance of the scales with her following advice;
In Complacency we shall always find Irony, because when we do not truly live and more so LOVE by our truest convictions we only make a mockery of the most precious of all human emotions. In doing so we lose touch with Faith, Trust, Balance, Growth and instead begin to sup with Envy, Denial, Pain and Loss. There is where the Irony of Complacency doth reside.
