Inept Science

I'm a huge documentary fan from way back. Is it just me or does it seem like scientists are less intelligent than they used to be ? I have a decent IQ. Actually a superior IQ in a few categories. More and more as I watch documentaries, I am finding that I am better qualified to do the job than the scientist getting paid. Keep in mind that I am a 10th grade drop out with a GED. A college degree was waylaid by pregnancy and health issues. What finally got me upset enough to blog about idiots in the science fields was a documentary I watched about a week ago. I did not pay attention to the channel or the title of the show, but it was about a marine biologists' quest to grow giant squid to adulthood and breed them. He was all funded and took out the boat...and from the first expedition I knew he would be unsuccessful because he's a moron. Before the first expedition was over, I had pinpointed everything he was doing wrong. I was yelling at the screen when his second expedition was funded. During the third...more largely funded expedition, he figured out 75% of what he needed to know and yet could still not transport a baby giant squid without the squid dying. Was it my genius IQ that allowed me to solve the problem before the first ten minutes of the excursion? No...in reality it was my experience with reef tanks in my living room. I would think...as a marine biologist...the guy would have more knowledge than a highschool drop out with a fish tank. I would think...as a marine biologist...he might have tanks of his own. I can only guess at the actual dollar amount of funding he received, but equipment, time, large boats, brother scientists in the field, specially made tools etc... it had to be in the hundreds of thousands. Had I been brought in to consult, it would have saved them over half the money and they would have live baby giant squid to play with as I type. But... I have no degree....oooooooooo I am quite sure that had I been in the right place at the right time..any suggestions I offered would have been completely blown off due to my lack of a degree, but at least I would have had the pleasure of " I told you so." The dilemma now is that I have the missing piece to their puzzle...and could find and contact the guy and tell him how to keep the baby squid alive...not to mention how to find them in more abundance and give him the specs on the travel tank he will need....but why should I ? Am I going to get any of that benefactor money ? No. Would I receive any fame ? No. You see, I've been down this road before. Many times before. I've been lucky to get a "thanks" on occasion. What I would like to see happen, is a think tank that would employ people with superior IQ's, particularly in abstract thinking capacity. They would not be required to have a degree and could choose solicitations of help from all branches of society. Wow, the basement geeks could actually make some cash. Alas, I am well aware that it is a pipe dream. Society would rather have idiots with degrees wasting their money. Not sociaphobic genius. I am now officially for hire. I won't hold my breath.
