Yesterday I was hit by a drunk driver.
An undocumented
uninsured
drunk
driver
Yesterday my biggest concern was a chicago style deep dish wheat tutte carne pizza and a lemonade.
Yesterday I had a car.
Yesterday I could honestly say I had never been in an injury car accident.
Yesterday I honestly thought my life would be fine.
3:00 Sunday afternoon
I was struck by a black car that sped through a stop sign coming out of a residential area at about 40 miles per hour
there was no stop/yield or pause
I had the indisputable right of way.
And honestly
I saw him about a split second before he collided
thinking to myself
he is going WAY too fast
that's a stop sign
there was no way I could have seen this or prevented it.
He was going that fast
at that exact point
and was in the perfect position to take my ass out.
We hit
I started screaming
angrilly really
because I thought
this is enough
this is enough to kill me.
If I hit something the wrong way or if I hit that telephone pole-
I'm dead.
The impact and acceleration (accelration to zero when a body is in motion lrn2physics)
could gooify my internals (and that was a legitimate concern)
My engine stopped
I'm still screaming
mostly in anger
quickly turning to pain
I crawled out of my car
thinking
god
please let everything still work'
just long enough for me to beat this STUPID fuck to death
god did not comply
when I cleared my window I fell to the ground unable to move
I just screamed and wiggled involuntarily
my head was split and gushing blood.
I didn't even know where all I was hit.
I just screamed and bled.
I was later informed that the driver tried to flee the scene
I asked if he was okay
for some reason...
because neighbors and samaritans were now on the scene
I was scrambling for my phone trying to dial 911
the screen went white and I knew that was out
but one of the folks there informed me he had called 911
man
the fire department was there fast
and they put me in a brace, and I had a rag over my head
my jeans, my arms, my face, my shirt the pavement were covered in red ooze.
they put me on a backbrace
kept asking me my name, my address, my name, my address, my date of birth, my name, my address, my date of birth
I felt a lot better once I was in the ambulance.
Had these two green eyes lookin at me, asking me to open my eyes so he could see my pupils.
we talked about what happened
and what happened to the other guy
someone caught him
the police had him in custody
it was then that I found out he was an illegal, and not insured
didn't speak english and only had a mexican driver's license.
apparently (I couldn't see her since she was at the back doors and my head was in a brace) a cute red headed corporal from TPD was taking my statement and informed me that the other driver suffered a superficial nontreatment cut on his arm
and then she uttered the infamously classic phrase everyone wants to hear after a car accident
"alchohol is involved in this accident"
I wanted to tear off all these nifty restraints and the IV and
... realized the pain in my head neck and back was getting worse
so I laid back down.
The EMT talked me into Stormont Vail, because they had a neurosurgeon on site at all times
and this was a head injury.
I didn't black out.
They didn't have to give me blood just fluids
man did I hurt...
after a while I was just glad that someone was there
and talking to me
and getting me to stop bleeding.
I was informed that I was bleeding through the bandages
and the pain in my back was more frightening than the pain in my head
even if the pain in my head was more apparent.
I said it felt like the last time I was in a car accident, but much more intense.
They were pretty glad when I could wiggle my toes though.
Even if it did take some thought.
We talked about politics
about immigration
about horror.
It was a good talk.
And then we arrived at the ER
it was weird floating out of the ambulance.
I'll save the rest for a part two. I'm going to take a nap.
