i was sitting in the chair you used to hold me in

she was cradled in my lap fading off to sleep
i could smell the conditioner from her hair
as i looked down i realized i was holding her

watching the birds
they were chasing each other through the leaves

i was walking through the store
i was holding my daughters hand
our arms were swinging back and forth
we were smiling and laughing
i looked down and realized i was holding her hand

i was sitting in that same chair
the clock struck 3 and the door rattled
i looked back and there she was
my daughter with a smile on her face
i ran up and gave her a big hug
the way i used to hug you when you came home
i missed her
