I try to understand....

I try to understand.... I try to understand what makes us feel the way we do- I know that you love me and I know that I love you. Things we have and do share, Are nothing in compare. I have never hidden my love, friendship, or since of belonging when it comes to you- I know that we both are brutally honest with each other and only speak the truth. Lost in my world of wanting, needing, and loving only, Giving all I can to be there even in times of unknown reasons and at times feeling lonely. I have seen you in a darken room, and rays you give light to the gloom. I witnessed you in the light of day, sometimes to hear you speak silently... "Just go away!" Keeping it locked inside like a hidden treasure- That is something that is beyond measure. Going with the flow to keep the peace and tears away, I can handle it when you tell me... "I'm sorry, I have dragons to slay!" Fight the evil spirits within, Don't let them win! No matter what happens in this life, You will come back in the next one more ready to fight. To share your intermost thoughts no matter how you feel, I love you more than a friend, less than an enemy- but always remember I ove you forever and always til the end.
Balancing Life and Work in the Nursing Profession Tired after working a forty-hour week? Working full time plus the added stress of family and other commitments leaves most of us with little time to take care of ourselves, professionals say. Keeping yourself in peak shape is the best thing you can do to keep yourself happy at work and at home. Here are 7 simple things YOU can do to keep yourself feeling great all week long 1. Eat right The most important thing you can do for yourself is to keep your body in top condition by eating right and drinking plenty of fluids. Make sure you’re stocked with fresh fruits and vegetables and try to make as many meals as possible for you and your family. Avoid foods high in fat. Pack yourself a sandwich or some healthy snacks for your workday instead of grabbing something on the go. If you don’t have time for breakfast, grab a cereal bar. But don’t skip breakfast all together. It’s gets your metabolism started and gives you energy so you can be on your feet for the next eight hours. Bring a water bottle with you to work and drink throughout the day. This will help you keep your energy up as well as avoid dehydration. If possible, try to drink eight cups a day. 2. Get plenty of rest Do you need to hit your snooze button five times before you get up? Try to get to bed around the same time everyday. Eight hours of sleep a night is best, although few adults achieve it. Avoid watching television or playing on the computer before bedtime. For those nurses working overnight shifts and sleeping during the day, try room darkening curtains to help you sleep for longer periods of time. 3. Exercise Aside from its proven health benefits, exercising will help keep your energy levels high and keep you feeling better about yourself. Aim to get your body moving at least 3 times per week for 30 minutes or more. Go for a fast walk, a bike ride or gardening to get your heart rate up. 4. Plan ahead Have a calendar and use it! Know what’s ahead of you for the upcoming week. Do you have appointments? Need to take your kids to soccer practice? Hire a babysitter? Planning ahead will help you keep your stress levels low and help avoid problems that can airse with last minute planning. 5. Unwind No matter what kind of nurse you are, undoubtedly, it’s a stressful job. Don’t think you can just come home in a relaxed and upbeat mood. If you’ve had a hard day, especially if it was emotional, allow yourself some time to relax or grieve. Try writing in a journal or talking to a coworker, friend or partner. Maybe just close your eyes and take some deep breaths. Whatever works for you, allow yourself time to unwind from your hectic pace and readjust to your home life so you’re not taking your frustrations out on the wrong people. 6. Leave Work On Time Being a nurse can be hectic and crazy. There are patients and charts. Though we understand it isn’t always possible, do your best to leave work on time. Don’t get sucked into staying late and leaving hours after you should have been home to make dinner. If you need to stay late to finish up work, set a deadline and tell your boss that you’ll be leaving at that time – and stick to it! 7. Do something nice for yourself Take some time to do something nice for yourself. Get away from work and home and do something for you. Go to a coffee shop and read a book, get your nails painted, meet a friend for lunch. Sometimes all you need is a little break. Can’t find the time? Try scheduling in two to three hours per week. Treat it like you would any appointment and don’t cancel! Keeping yourself happy is a top priority! -Andrea Weissman

As I walk

As I walk As I walk in the light of day, I am often greeted along the way. By the wind in my face in my face, by birds that sing, by God's beauty in everything. As the day passes on, I continue my journey as far as the day is long. I come to my place of rest- solitude in God's comfort I find it as the sun begins to set. As the darkness of night over comes me, I know in my heart I will be comforted by thee. As I awaken with the morning anew, Returning to that moment of..... As I walk in the light of day. I feel the wind in my face, the birds singing their praise, and the beauty of God's grace- in all of is where I see God's face. written 8/1/04

Hearts Walls

There are to many shadows on my hearts walls, I am scared to see their faces after all. Crying myself to sleep every night, Afraid that their truths are right. I am caught between a love of two, Knowing I need to make a choice between either one of you. Asking God to guide me to help with the choice, Awaiting for the reasoning in His voice. My hearts walls are hard and heavy laden with guilt, pain, joy, and happiness; Seeing the shadows on my heart's walls are hard to miss.

The rain of darkness

The rain of darkness falls, Ever pounding, ever resounding. Sheltering me from the day, and filtering it's rays. Keeping me from harm, Finding a place of warm. Knowing it will find me soon, Not wanting to feel the heat of noon. A love, warn, exhausted times, Hearing the wind in the chimes. Looking up to a weathertorn sky, Asking is the eve of night to be thine? Sharing a kiss, love to be made, In a special forsaken place. Knowing it will be forever, in darkness and never be replaced. To call for you, to reach out is without a doubt, The rain of darkness speaks out.

Our 5 Senses of Love

Able to speak, Unable to use the words. Able to hear, Unable to use our ears. Able to see, Unable to see the vision. Able to touch, Unable to absorb the feeling. Able to taste, Unable to quench the desire. All of our senses are dulled when it comes to others. We can make each other speak, hear, see, touch, and taste love. When we make love it is deep and true~ There is no other like you. We only see each other together and that is our special time alone, Intuned with each other and all that is shown. Using our 5 Senses of Love.... written 6/14/08

The Anquishing Choice

The Anquishing Choice.... After a few of the usual Sunday evening hymns, the chruch's pastor slowly stood up, walked over to the pulpit and, before he gave his sermon for the evening, he briefly introduced a guest minister who was in the service that evening. In the indroduction, the pastor told the congregation that the guest minister was one of his dearest childhood friends, and that he wanted him to have a few moments to greet the church and share whatever he felt would be appropriate for the service. With that, an elderly man stepped up tp the pulpit and began to speak. "A Father, his son, and a friend of his son were sailing off the Pacific Coast," he began, "when a fast appraching storm blocked any attempt to get back to the shore. The waves were so high that even though the father was an exprienced sailor, he could not keep the boat upright, and the three were swept into the ocan as the boat capsized. The old man hesitated for a moment, making eye contact with two teenagers who - for the first time since the sermon began - were looking somwhat interested in what he was saying. The aged minister continued with his story. "Grabbing a rescue line, the father had to make the most excruciating decision of his life; which boy would he throw the other end of the lifeline? He only had seconds to make the decision. The father knew that heis son was a Christian, and healso was aware that his son's friend was not. The agony of his decision could not be matched by the torment of the waves. "As the father yelled out, 'I love you,Son!' he threw out the lifeline to his son's friend. By the time the father had pulled the friend back to the capsized boat, his son had disappeared beneath the raging swells into the black of night. His body was never recovered." By this time, the two teenagers were sitting up straight in the pew, anxiously waiting for the next words to come out of the old minister's mouth. "The father", he continued. "knew his son would step into eternity with Jesus, and he could not bear the thought of his son's friend stepping into a eternity without Jesus, therefore, he sacrified his son to save the son's friend. "How freat is the love of God that He should the same for us," the minister exclaimed. "Our Heavenly Father sacrified His only begotten Son that we could be saved. I urge you to accept His offer to rescue you and take a hold of the lifeline He is throwing out to you in this service." With that, the old man turned and sat back down in his chair as silence filled the room. The pastor again walked slowly to the pulpit and delivered a brief sermon with an inivation at the end. None, however, responded to the appeal. Within minutes after the service ended, the two teenagers were at the old man's side. "That was a nice story," politely stated one of them, "but I don't think it was very realistic for a father to give his only son's life in hopes the other boy would be come a Christian." "Well, you've got a point there," the old man replied, glancing down at his worn Bible. Then a big smile broadened his narrow face. He looked up at the boys and said, "It sure isn't very realistic, is it?" But I'm standing here today to tell you that story gives me a glimpse of what it must have been for God to give up His Son for me, You see, I wat that father and your pastor is my son's friend." This was shared by our CEO/Founder of the company I work for. Mr. Beecher Hunter of Life Care Centers of America. Thank you Mr. Beecher Hunter for all the beautiful stories you have shared in the past, and continue to do so. Becky J. Norrell, L.V.N. Barstow,CA
