Fubar feature: "Favorite Photos"

This feature is accessible by going to your "My" menu, and clicking "Favorite Photos."

What does it do?

I'm glad you asked! This feature allows you to put your favorite pictures of Fubarbarians in one nifty spot so that you can view them all in one screen.

How does it work?

Favorite Photos keeps track of pictures you flagged as your favorite. Go to any user's profile, find a picture you like, and click "add to my favorites."

How is this different from ripping a photo?

Well, only you can see photos you marked as favorite. Ripped photos show up in your gallery, and can be rated (or reported!) by other members. Also, some members don't like their pictures being ripped, so they'll put a block on them. Also, you can add NSFW pictures to your Favorite Photos. By their nature, photos marked NSFW can't be ripped.

What if I don't want this person on my favorites anymore?

In a similar manner to removing family and blocked users, go back to your Favorites page and click the Remove link underneath the photo.

Am I notified when someone adds me as a favorite?

Yes. You will receive a notification in your bar tab whenever someone picks a favorite photo of yours. If you're curious who added you, you can click the link at the top of the Favorite Photos page (it says, "click here to see those who've added your photos to their favorites!"). This should satisfy your vanity some.

What else should I know about Favorite Photos?

Currently, you can only have one Favorite Photo per user at a time. In other words, you've gone to their profile and chosen your favorite picture of them from among their entire gallery - you can't have two that you like the best, can you? For example: I go to User A's page and tag one photo as her favorite. Then, I go to User B's page and tag the picture of his mohawk. Then I go to User C's and get the picture of that nifty little New Year's Eve riot (where we all got a little drunk) he had at his house. Then, I go back to User A's and find another picture I like. So far, I have 3 favorites in my folder, but if I choose another User A shot, it will replace the old one (but not affect B or C). Got it? We clear? Cool beans. Here is some information on the salute policy, as of February 28, 2008. This is not new information, but hopefully it will shed some light on what we expect when determining whether or not to approve a salute photo. The goal is to put together a picture that not only says you're you, but can also link itself to your profile. This is why the three basic elements of a salute photo, listed below, are important to have on your handwritten sign.

A salute photo must have a picture of you with your complete face showing, as well as a handwritten sign with the following on it:

Your current Fubar screenname
Your Fubar ID number (it can be found located between parentheses in the title bar of your Fubar home page; mine is 58128)
The word "Fubar"

In lieu of your Fubar ID, you may use your custom URL if you have one set (for example, mine is http://www.fubar.com/owl, or http://owl.fubar.com). The sign doesn't necessarily have to be on paper. Approved salute photos have had the sign information written on the member's hands, forehead, and even on a pane of glass.

What are some things that might get your submission rejected?

Signs added after-the-fact. We can usually tell if someone has run it through Photoshop or has superimposed a post-it note onto an existing photo and run it through a flatbed scanner. It's been done. Don't do it.
Animated salutes. While that may not be that intuitive to know, it's easier to fake an animated salute than a static one.
Photos featuring more than one person. The salute photo's purpose is to link your real existence to your Fubar account. If any questions about your identity could be raised as a result of that salute photo, it will be rejected.
Obscured faces. We occasionally see salute submissions where the sign is covering up most of the member's face. This defeats the purpose of a salute. If more than 25% of your face is covered, we will reject it. We will also reject salutes where the member is wearing dark sunglasses (this ALSO hides your identity).
Salutes without a handwritten sign. Although this basic concept is implied by the numbered list above, many people submit salutes without that sign, thinking a Fubar T-Shirt or a picture of their Fubar.com Home Page is enough. It isn't - they are only complementary additions to your salute. The sign is still required. In addition, the sign must be in your handwriting. Don't print out a document from your word processor, showing off your fancy fonts.
New salutes with CherryTAP or LostCherry instead of Fubar on the sign. Yes, some salutes will say the former names of this website. If you already have one up, and it was approved when we were still LostCherry or CherryTAP, you don't need to take it down - it is still valid. Be aware that we will not accept any new salute submissions without the word "Fubar" on it.
Salutes in a private folder. Salutes are meant to be public. Other members should be able to preview the up-close-and-personal salute photo. And, tying into that, we come to...
NSFW images on salutes. If the photo could not be shown in a public place, then we will reject it.
Content-modified photos. Don't run your pic through Photoshop to "spice it up" or "airbrush stuff out." This subtracts from the authenticity factor of your submission.

If your salute photo is rejected, you'll get two fu-mail messages: one from Fubar Shop telling you it wasn't approved, and another from a bouncer telling you why. Please don't submit salutes that are obviously fake. If enough of these show up, you may lose your account. As always, feel free to ask a bouncer if you have any questions about your potential submission.

How To Verify Your Email To Verify your email, go to your profile by going to My on your homepage then to Profile. Then Click on the link that says, Click Here to resend verification email. Make sure your spam filter for your email is turned off. If it is not turned off, check your Spam/Bulk/Junk folder for the Email from Fubar.

Then go to your email, there should be one from fubar, if there isnt wait a few minutes and check again, it might take some time. There will be a link in the email to click on to verify it.

If you cannot click on the link, go to verify it. http://www.fubar.com/verifyemail.php And copy the Token that is in the email.

And Paste the Token Into the Token Field.

How To Screen Shot There are also numerous screen capture (screen grabber) programs for Windows and the Mac that offer more sophisticated capture capabilities. For example, any or all of the windows can be selected by moving the cursor on screen. Some programs can capture the contents of an entire scrollable window. I personally use Firefox which has a nice little add-on called Fireshot, which you can get here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5648 which makes taking screen shots in a browser very easy. If you have no such programs this is how you take a screen shot. Step 1. Click Print Screen located where Image above shows,which can also vary from computer to computer, with some computers you also have to press CTRL or FN key at the same time, try a few tests. Step 2 Goto START menu (Programs)then (Accessories)go down to your (Paint) program OPEN....at top of screen you'll see FILES and EDIT...click EDIT go down to PASTE Step 3 After you paste the image from your computer screen save file as ______ the name under that is SAVE AS TYPE....click and change to JPG format NOT 24 bit map if you don't you can NOT load into FUBAR.

For putting pics in a bulletin or blog, use the html code provided, copy the entire code and paste it into the body of a bulletin or blog. For using existing coding and changing a pic, use the direct link photobucket gives you, and replace the existing url in the coding. You can also use the direct link in skins and lounges for images if you have the coding it replaces the URL.

This Picture enhanced Tutorial will take you step by step through what is needed to change your status on fubar.

Step 1
In the upper left of your fubar page hold your mouse pointer over MY then choose the PROFILE link in the dropdown menu.

Step 2
On the right side of this page find the 16th dropdown, Change this dropdown to either Original or Power User.

Step 3
Go to the bottom of this page, enter your password and hit the submit button.

Once this page has finished reloading, click the HOME link up by the My link we worked with in step 1.

Step 4
Under your name at the top of the center of your page you will see this:

Click the link on the right of this that says Create Your Own Status!

Step 5
Now replace ONLINE with what you want your status to be

Finally, click the SET button.

Congrats, You have now set your online status.

Fubar Web Browser FAQ and Help

General Tips:

We have tested Fubar extensively on Macs and PCs. Make sure your browser of choice (Internet Explorer, FireFox, Flock, Netscape, Maxthon, etc.) is set to accept cookies. Browsers come set to handle cookies by default but sometimes Fubarbarians disable cookies and forget that they are disabled. For best Fubar results, make sure cookies are set to 'ON' for your particular browser of choice.

AOL users: connect to AOL but use any browser EXCEPT the AOL browser. Once you are connected to AOL you can use any browser to surf the web. Your Fubar experience will be improved if you are NOT using the AOL browser.

Why does Fubar run slow at times?

This could be because you have a slow bandwidth connection or your computer is having trouble playing Fubar sound alerts. You can turn your sound alerts off by clicking on your 'profile' settings link and changing your Alert Sounds to 'OFF'. Dont forget to click the Submit button at the bottom of the page to save the new setting.

Why does Fubar seem to crash my internet browser?

Streaming media content that auto plays on various Fubar pages tends to make any browser lag or *appear* to be hung. The browser must stream part of the clip so if you click another link and there is a delay, be patient (your browser is most likely NOT hung) it should work after a few second delay. THERE IS NOTHING FUBAR CAN DO TO HELP THIS AS IT IS AN ISSUE WITH THE WAY BROWSER PLUGINS BUFFER STREAMING MEDIA.

Our testing has revealed that browser lockup is most often a result of not having the latest browser or media plugins for your system. As much as we would like to, Fubar simply doesnt have the resources to help each user upgrade their software, but we recommend you install the latest browser software for your computer as well as the latest music and video player plugins. Here are a couple of links that may help:

Macromedia Flash player Apple Quicktime player Sun JAVA Plugin ActiveX update(Internet Explorer only)

(For best results, completely uninstall the old version before installing the current version)

If your computer is old, has limited memory, or uses a dialup Internet connection you are advised to set the User Tooltips to 'OFF' in your 'profile' settings page. Dont forget to enter the Bouncer ID Check and click the Submit button at the bottom of the page to save the new setting.

Internet Explorer: Trouble, random lockups or generally strange behavior

Have you tried the FireFox web browser? Firefox is widely regarded as the best all-round performing browser for content rich sites such as Fubar.

Click here to get the latest stable version the FireFox 1.5.0.x web browser. FireFox 2.0.x is the newest version available but it is not considered a stable release, I have had far more success personally with the Firefox 1.5.x version. Maxthon and Flock are other web browser alternatives that work well for many Fubarbarians.

Browser specific tips:

Internet Explorer

The following steps set Internet Explorer for optimized browsing on most systems and most Web sites. These settings assume you have broadband Internet (Cable, DSL, Satellite or equivalent) and 1+ GigaByte of free hard drive space.

First, use Windows Update to make sure you have the most current updates for Internet Explorer 6.0 on your system. Internet Explorer 6.0 is not the newest version but after much use of many different browsers including IE, I recommend IE 6 over IE 7 for compatibility reasons. You may have to run through the Windows Update process more than once. In an open Internet Explorer window, at the top menu bar click Tools -> Internet Options...

On the window that appears, click the 'Delete Files...' button and confirm (This will delete your cache).

Next click the 'Settings...' button In the next window that opens, set the radio button to 'Every visit to the page', then set the amount of disk space to '500' MB (If you are running Internet Explorer 7 then set this to 1000 MB)

Click OK, then OK one more time. Next close all open Internet Explorer browser windows Now open a new Internet Explorer browser window and try Fubar again.

FireFox

The following steps set FireFox for optimized browsing on most systems and most Web sites. These settings assume you have broadband Internet (Cable, DSL, Satellite or equivalent) and 1+ GigaByte of free hard drive space.

First, I Do NOT recommend using FireFox 2.0.x quite yet, there are too many known bugs including memory leaks that will definitely effect your CT viewing pleasure. This said, if you are running Vista then you have to run FireFox 2.0.x because 1.5.x is not compatible. You can get the newest old version here. Before you begin I suggest you make sure you have the latest version of FireFox specific plugins. Grab Windows Media Player plugin, Flash plugin, Quicktime plugin, etc here. In an open FireFox window, at the top menu bar click Tools -> Options...

On the window that appears, click Privacy and then click Cache Click the Clear Cache Now button Set the Use up to: 500 MB of disk space for cache (For FireFox 2.0.x set this to 1000 MB)

Click 'OK' Next close all open FireFox browser windows Now open a new FireFox browser window and try Fubar again.

The above steps have been proven to fix 95% of Fubar issues caused by browser settings. If these steps dont fix your particular problem, please review these steps one more time to be sure you did not overlook or skip any steps.
