• Signs added after-the-fact. We can usually tell if someone has run it through Photoshop or has superimposed a post-it note onto an existing photo and run it through a flatbed scanner. It's been done. Don't do it.
• Animated salutes. While that may not be that intuitive to know, it's easier to fake an animated salute than a static one.
• Photos featuring more than one person. The salute photo's purpose is to link your real existence to your Fubar account. If any questions about your identity could be raised as a result of that salute photo, it will be rejected.
• Obscured faces. We occasionally see salute submissions where the sign is covering up most of the member's face. This defeats the purpose of a salute. If more than 25% of your face is covered, we will reject it. We will also reject salutes where the member is wearing dark sunglasses (this ALSO hides your identity).
• Salutes without a handwritten sign. Although this basic concept is implied by the numbered list above, many people submit salutes without that sign, thinking a Fubar T-Shirt or a picture of their Fubar.com Home Page is enough. It isn't - they are only complementary additions to your salute. The sign is still required. In addition, the sign must be in your handwriting. Don't print out a document from your word processor, showing off your fancy fonts.
• New salutes with CherryTAP or LostCherry instead of Fubar on the sign. Yes, some salutes will say the former names of this website. If you already have one up, and it was approved when we were still LostCherry or CherryTAP, you don't need to take it down - it is still valid. Be aware that we will not accept any new salute submissions without the word "Fubar" on it.
• Salutes in a private folder. Salutes are meant to be public. Other members should be able to preview the up-close-and-personal salute photo. And, tying into that, we come to...
• NSFW images on salutes. If the photo could not be shown in a public place, then we will reject it.
• Content-modified photos. Don't run your pic through Photoshop to "spice it up" or "airbrush stuff out." This subtracts from the authenticity factor of your submission.

Fubar Web Browser FAQ and Help

General Tips:

We have tested Fubar extensively on Macs and PCs. Make sure your browser of choice (Internet Explorer, FireFox, Flock, Netscape, Maxthon, etc.) is set to accept cookies. Browsers come set to handle cookies by default but sometimes Fubarbarians disable cookies and forget that they are disabled. For best Fubar results, make sure cookies are set to 'ON' for your particular browser of choice.

AOL users: connect to AOL but use any browser EXCEPT the AOL browser. Once you are connected to AOL you can use any browser to surf the web. Your Fubar experience will be improved if you are NOT using the AOL browser.

Why does Fubar run slow at times?

This could be because you have a slow bandwidth connection or your computer is having trouble playing Fubar sound alerts. You can turn your sound alerts off by clicking on your 'profile' settings link and changing your Alert Sounds to 'OFF'. Dont forget to click the Submit button at the bottom of the page to save the new setting.

Why does Fubar seem to crash my internet browser?

Streaming media content that auto plays on various Fubar pages tends to make any browser lag or *appear* to be hung. The browser must stream part of the clip so if you click another link and there is a delay, be patient (your browser is most likely NOT hung) it should work after a few second delay. THERE IS NOTHING FUBAR CAN DO TO HELP THIS AS IT IS AN ISSUE WITH THE WAY BROWSER PLUGINS BUFFER STREAMING MEDIA.

Our testing has revealed that browser lockup is most often a result of not having the latest browser or media plugins for your system. As much as we would like to, Fubar simply doesnt have the resources to help each user upgrade their software, but we recommend you install the latest browser software for your computer as well as the latest music and video player plugins. Here are a couple of links that may help:

If your computer is old, has limited memory, or uses a dialup Internet connection you are advised to set the User Tooltips to 'OFF' in your 'profile' settings page. Dont forget to enter the Bouncer ID Check and click the Submit button at the bottom of the page to save the new setting.

Internet Explorer: Trouble, random lockups or generally strange behavior

Have you tried the FireFox web browser? Firefox is widely regarded as the best all-round performing browser for content rich sites such as Fubar.

Browser specific tips:

Internet Explorer

The following steps set Internet Explorer for optimized browsing on most systems and most Web sites. These settings assume you have broadband Internet (Cable, DSL, Satellite or equivalent) and 1+ GigaByte of free hard drive space.

On the window that appears, click the 'Delete Files...' button and confirm (This will delete your cache).

In the next window that opens, set the radio button to 'Every visit to the page', then set the amount of disk space to '500' MB (If you are running Internet Explorer 7 then set this to 1000 MB)

In an open FireFox window, at the top menu bar click Tools -> Options...

Set the Use up to: 500 MB of disk space for cache (For FireFox 2.0.x set this to 1000 MB)
