Everyone who's been here a while knows the value of having ezRate picture folders! The best ones are about the same size, not too large but not too small (I still like to see what I'm rating!), and usually have a central theme to attract different people to different categories.
If you have a VIP you can have 2500 pictures, so you want to set up folders that have 250 pics to maximize on cherry bombing. The max # of pics a bomb can hit is 250 so that # provides the best value to both bomber and bombee. 250 seems to be a good size for click by click raters too, but it helps if you have a variety of categories because that provides some incentive for people who are into different things to rate your pics.
Typically they will rate a few folders then move on to help another fubarian, but the easier it is to rate your pics the more likely it is they will rate more. When pics change sizes or take too long to appear it slows down the process and they may get frustrated which means they may not rate as many.
To upload 250 pics into multiple folders takes some work but once set up you are good to go! Here's how I do it, and of course this applies to non-VIPs you just can't store as many pictures. Note what level you are too and look up what your max picture count can be so you don't try to upload more pictures than you are able to have as this will get confusing otherwise.
First, create a folder on your hard drive called fubar, then inside that folder create another folder and name it the theme of your pictures. If you want to create a folder of car pics, name it cars so you know what is in there.
Next, go to google and click on the "image" link at the top left next to "Web". Then in the search field type your theme, a space, then then this - imagesize:200x200 - without the dashes. I like 200x200, but you can make it larger if you want, or if you can't find enough pictures do another search try 210x210 as an example and more will show up just a little bigger than the first set. So, if my theme was castles, here is the format: castles imagesize:200x200 and then click the "Search images" button to the right of the search field.
A lot of thumbnails will appear, but these aren't your pictures yet! Start from the top left and work your way down row by row by clicking on the thumbnails one by one. Google will show you a top section where a large link says "See full size image" - click it, you don't need to wait for the rest of the page to appear. Now you have your image by itself on a page. Right-click it and select the "save picture as" option, then browse to the folder you created at the begining. Make sure you put the image into the correct folder - once you do the first one you won't have to browse again, it will remember your save location as long as you don't change it before you are finished. Save it.
Ok, now click on your "back" button 2 times until you return to the page of thumbnails. Repeat on the next thumbnail and continue until you have your desired number of pictures for your theme. Remember if google returns a thumbnail you don't like just skip over that one. If you aren't getting the results you want you may want to modify your search a little, for example instead of "castles" use "red castles" for the search term, or change the size of the image.
Open your folder to keep count of how many you have, to make sure you don't have any duplicates, and to make sure they are saving where you think they are. If you view the folder by thumbnail you will see what you have been saving.
The last step is to use fubar's bulk uploader which only works with Internet Explorer, not firefox. You can find instructions in your "my photos" section just browse to your new folder where the pics are stored, click select all, click one checkbox, and then save to a new fubar folder named the same as your theme with the words "ezRate" in front to let people know. You can also use "Bomb Me ezRate" or whatever you like keeping in mind the easier you make it for others to know at a glance what you've got, the more likely you are to get bombed and rated.
Its important to note that this bulk uploader will not copy any image that is under 5k, so always add more images than you need from google as some will not make it, or try an imagesize of 300x300 and see how that makes out since these will be larger usually. Fubar shows you how many photos uploaded after the bulk upload so you will know if you need to add a few more. If you do delete the contents of the folder on your hard drive first then go back to google for more, otherwise you might upload everything again!
