Long lasting relationships are about having fun together and noticing each other. What "being romantic" means varies widely from person to person, but generally, being romantic is about dedicating time to someone for the purpose of pleasing the other person, directly or indirectly.
Some people focus on the small things such as letting the partner have the remote control all evening, or having home-cooked food ready when the partner arrives home tired from work. From time to time, however, a little more is required. In order to keep up the passion, here are some tips for little and bigger "events" to pull off to show your partner that you love him/her.
Just some of the things I like to do for the lady in my life. (Well when I had one lol)
1. Hold your significant other's hand. Kiss his/her shoulder. Buying some massage oil and a book on simple massages can work wonders.
2. Have a balloon hunt. Giving a present can be spiced up a bit with a small "treasure hunt." Blow up some balloons and hide inside each a note of where to go next. The present can either be material or something simple.
3. Phone your partner. If (s)he picks up, ask the partner to hang up and don't pick up again. When you finally reach the answering machine, have something ready which can play music. Then instead of leaving a message just leave a piece of the love song, preferably when something sweet is being said.
4. Kiss for every laugh. Play the game that whenever your partner laughs, you are entitled to kiss him/her. This can be during a movie or when going out shopping or a visit at the museum.
5. Play the balloon game. Blow up a lot of balloons and place them between you and your partner while laying in bed. Try to pop them by squeezing your bodies together when you cuddle. This is harder than it sounds. In some of the balloons you can add sweet notes.
6. Call to see if you can pick up anything on the way home from work.
7. Make a date. Call your partner at work and say: "Hello beautiful! Are you free tonight?"
8. Write your partner a check for one million kisses.
9. Give him/her a lottery ticket and a note: "I hit the jackpot when I met you."
10. Using a knife, trace/write "I love you" in the butter. It will surprise your partner next time (s)he uses it.
11. Hide a love note in the bottle of vitamins. The note says "Try some vitamin L."
12. Scatter rose petals all over the bed.
13. Write notes on Post-it notes and stick them around the house.
14. Compliment. It's simple, compliment more, complain less.
15. If your partner buys soda by the can, use a permanent marker to write "I love you" on the top of every can. Only do this if you consistently tell your partner you love them or it might be creepy.
16. Wake up. Before getting out of bed, face your partner, give him/her a kiss and say: "I'm thankful to have you in my life."
17. Hide a little gift for them so they'll find it during a walk together.
18. Give your partner a lottery ticket. Attach a note: "You are one in a million."
19. Pull the bag out of your lover's (unused) breakfast cereal box and slit a small hole in it. Insert a love note. Tape up the bag and return it to the box.
20. While your partner takes a shower, write the words "I love you" in the condensation of the bathroom mirror. Or if you shower together, write it while he or she is drying him or herself.
