1.)If your dealing with a company. search it out on the internet. do a google search ,yahoo search any other search engines you use. When you do the search put in the name of the company. find out anything you can that way. Then add a little to the search .Put in the name and the word complaint,. and search that. Try it another way. Put in the name of the company and the word feedback. ( try different words after the company's name) There is always something
2.) If your dealing with say an Artist Do the same thing as above. Try words like scam, or fraud or con after the name With artists/ you can also hit searches like CMT or MTV or any type of music sites where they have a forum for people to say stuff about the artist. ALSO with an artist when you put their name in the search and it brings it up see if the majority of the searches is only the artist sort of say "blowing thier own horn" online is a great tool learn to use it right. There are many great artists out there but in turn there are many fakes out there giving the music business a bad name.
3.)If your dealing with charities this one please be careful with. Make sure you investigate the person collecting the money and where the money is going to. Check with the charity that the money is going to first. Make sure they are for real. Also ask them if there is something set up where the funds for sure will be sent to them. Make sure when contacting the charity you give them the name of the person who is claiming they are collecting money so they can either let you know that it is for real or not and now the charity has the scam artists name and they can take it from there.
4.) Cons of the Heart. The hardest one to detect. But there are some clues that can let in on to the person being real or not being real. If you find yourself "falling" for someone online try and take a step back and do some thinking. Things to look for in a con. Contact is major. Is the other person online at set times. and goes off line at the same times like if he is online in the afternoon and only the afternoon or if she gets online late late at night and never on weekends. Or they Poof. one second you are talking in IM next they are gone. ( they will always have a excuse to why it happened) Those are signs of that person can only be online when their other half is not around. Another sign is what information they give you Phone number is a major sign. can you call them anytime. or are you told "only call at this time I dont want to wake my kids/mom " or the one I like is "my phone is broke give me yours I will call you." and then like with the online the timing for the calls are weird. You also never get calls on the weekends or on holidays. Also the line that they are not with their wife/husband but they haven't split yet ( living in the same house.. )That’s a line of bull. Like I said this one is hard because we tend to listen to our hearts and not our minds. The online world is so beautiful in our hearts The vast fakeness of it all becomes such a beautiful road that we all want to be on. But its our hearts that take the beating if we dont let our minds do the work on the start up. Dont be someone's notch on their bedpost.
