So would archaeologists call it ‘Timberhenge’?

Archaeologists Discover Stonehenge’s Timber Twin

Stonehenge, that ancient and mysterious circle of giant obelisks on England’s Salisbury Plain, may once have had a nearby wooden “twin,” according to a pioneering new archaeological survey.

“The idea of finding something as significant and dramatic as this monument, so close to Stonehenge, is just brilliant,” Henry Chapman, an archaeologist at the University of Birmingham and a member of the team that made the discovery, told AOL News. “It will completely change the way we think about Stonehenge and the surrounding landscape.”

The discovery of the timber henge (a term used to describe any British circular ritual site dating from 3,000 to 2,000 B.C.) was made by a multinational team of archaeologists, who started surveying the land around Stonehenge two weeks ago with sensors that provide a high-definition 3-D view of what’s under the ground. “Every time you excavate, you damage the site by moving material,” Chapman says. “With the technology we use, such as ground-penetrating radar, there’s no need to dig.”
Archaeologists discover another Stonehenge-like structure close to the original

A week after they started examining the area, the team spotted what appeared to be a circle of 24 post holes under the ground, less that 3,000 feet to the northwest of Stonehenge. The ring measured about 82 feet in diameter — just 17 feet less than Stonehenge — and was enclosed by an inner ditch and possibly an outer bank.

“The post holes are up to a meter in diameter, which suggests that the timbers they’d have held would have been at least 10 feet high,” Chapman says. He adds that the towering structure was likely built “about 4,500 years ago, on the basis of comparing it with similar sites.” That’s approximately the same time that Stonehenge’s world-famous trilithons — a prehistoric structure with two upright stone blocks supporting a third placed across the top — were erected.

And curiously, the newly discovered monument mirrors a similar henge some 4,270 feet southeast of Stonehenge, which was first uncovered in 1937. Like the newly discovered site, that circle overlooks the ancient stone structure and has two entrances. All three henges appear to have been deliberately aligned.more

Another Woodhenge Identified in … Ohio?

Within only a few days of each other, two eerily similar discoveries were made in quite diferent parts of the world. Only 900 meters (roughly 2,900 feet) away from the original Stonehenge, scientists using radar detection have found that there is another henge, this one seemingly made of wood, still buried under the ground. And just days ago the Internet was flooded with news that scientists investigating a timber circle realized that it bore a very striking resemblance to England’s Stonehenge’s structure, except this timber circle is in Cincinnati, Ohio. Can we all just please agree that this is really weird?

For England’s timber henge, the resemblance to Stonehenge is nearly exact. The structure was constructed on the same orientation in relation to the cardinal directions, and debunks the idea that Stonehenge was constructed as a solitary pinnacle. This will also likely lead to an acceleration of research in the area, which now could potentially just be a hotbed of henges. At the very least, researchers will need to start investigating and excavating the newly discovered henge site.

And the British woodhenge isn’t the only one aligned in conjunction with Stonehenge. What makes this whole story all the more remarkable is that, according to Ohio excavation leader Robert Riordan, their woodhenge is aligned for seemingly exactly the same purpose:

But the model revealed that the alignment is such that, during the Northern Hemisphere’s summer solstice—the longest day of the year—the sun appears to rise in the gateway, as seen from the center of the circle, Riordan said.more

Black Slave Owners

http://www.newsnet14.com/2009/03/black-slaveowners/ Please go to link, because it takes you to the whole story and other links where I got this information. Many historians have argued that the majority of black masters purchased their relatives and friends who were held in bondage. Being unable to manumit their loved ones, the black masters were forced to hold their kinsfolk and friends as nominal slaves. So they treated their relatives and friends as free persons, and whenever possible, they attempted to manumit their loved ones. However, there is ample evidence which demonstrates that free blacks purchased slaves as capital investments. To many black masters, slaves represented valued property being used to produce more wealth. These slaveowners, therefore, bought slaves as commercial assets and used them to make a profit. In fact, the commercial side of free black slaveholding was more prevalent than previously maintained by historians. CHATTEL SLAVERY is closest to the slavery that prevailed in early American history. Chattel slaves are considered their masters’ property — exchanged for things like trucks or money and expected to perform labor and sexual favors. Once of age, their children are expected to do the same. Chattel slavery is typically racially-based; in the North African country of Mauritania, for example, black Africans serve the lighter-skinned Arab-Berber communities. Though slavery was legally abolished there in 1980, today 90,000 slaves continue to serve the Muslim Berber ruling class. Similarly, in the African country of Sudan, Arab northerners are known to raid the villages in the South — killing all the men and taking the women and children to be auctioned off and sold into slavery. The first to be enslaved usually were members of the nearest tribe or clan. For centuries, Europeans enslaved fellow Europeans, until economic circumstances altered, creating a whole new set of social needs. As the European looked elsewhere for a market in slaves, Africa became the continent of choice because of the sophisticated slaving network already in place. Slavery had a sustained history in places like Ghana and Mali long before Europeans began trading in African slaves. Slave societies were common throughout the continent. Sometimes slavers got caught in their own nets, as in the case of Abd Rahman Ibrahima. Ibrahima was the son of a Timbo king and, along with his father, was an industrious slave trader. While on a mission to attack and capture other clansmen, he himself was captured by tribal enemies. Ibrahima was sold to a Spanish slaver, and wound up on a Mississippi plantation, where he remained for the next 40 years. Marcus Garvey, black nationalist and leader of the largest mass movement of blacks, was certainly no apologist for slavery. Nevertheless, he had a keen understanding of the origins and indispensable role of the institution of human bondage. Without moralizing over the right and wrong of slavery, in the 1920s, he pragmatically wrote: “Slavery is a condition imposed upon individuals of races not sufficiently able to protect or defend themselves, and so long as a race or people expose themselves to the danger of being weak, no one can tell when they will be reduced to slavery. Visitor From The Past

Visitor From The Past by Thelen Paulk I had a dream the other night I didn't understand, A figure walking through the mist, with flintlock in his hand. His clothes were torn and dirty, as he stood there by my bed, He took off his three-cornered hat, and speaking low he said: We fought a revolution to secure our liberty, We wrote the Constitution, as a shield from tyranny. For future generations, this legacy we gave, In this, the land of the free and home of the brave. The freedom we secured for you, we hoped you'd always keep, But tyrants labored endlessly while your parents were asleep. Your freedom gone - your courage lost - you're no more than a slave, In this, the land of the free and the home of the brave. You buy permits to travel, and permits to own a gun, Permits to start a business, or to build a place for one. On land that you believe you own, you pay a yearly rent, Although you have no voice in choosing how the money's spent. Your children must attend a school that doesn't educate, Your moral values can't be taught, according to the state. You read about the current "news" in a very biased press, You pay a tax you do not owe, to please the IRS. Your money is no longer made of silver or of gold, You trade your wealth for paper, so life can be controlled. You pay for crimes that make our Nation turn from God to shame, You've taken Satin's number, as you've traded in your name. You've given government control to those who do you harm, So they can padlock churches, and steal the family farm. And keep our country deep in debt, put men of God in jail, Harass your fellow countryman while corrupted courts prevail. Your public servants don't uphold the solemn oath they're sworn, Your daughters visit doctors so children won't be born. Your leaders ship artillery and guns to foreign shores, And send your sons to slaughter, fighting other people's wars. Can you regain your Freedom for which we fought and died? Or don't you have the courage, or the faith to stand with pride? Are there no more values for which you'll fight to save? Or do you wish your children live in fear and be a slave? Sons of the Republic, arise and take a stand! Defend the Constitution, the Supreme Law of the Land! Preserve our Republic, and each God-given right! And pray to God to keep the torch of freedom burning bright! As I awoke he vanished, in the mist from whence he came, His words were true, we are not free, and we have ourselves to blame. For even now as tyrants trample each God-given right, We only watch and tremble -- too afraid to stand and fight. If he stood by your bedside in a dream while you're asleep, And wonder what remains of your right he fought to keep. What would be your answer if he called out from the grave? Is this still the land of the free and home of the brave? When America Goes Down When the quick and grinning fire burns our epitaph on ice, When the mad seas breach the ramparts, And demand we pay the price; Will our 'twained lives split asunder? Will our love submerge and drown? Will we cling tight through the thunder as America goes down? When the fungal growth that's fastened on our cities lifts and flies, When the pioneering spirit of our forebears falls and dies; Will we still lie curled together in our broken marriage bed? Will our love still be forever when america is dead? While the parasite is eating through our sweet and happy dream, While the nightmare is descending, And the sleeper cannot scream; While the night is washed with creeping In all shades of black and brown, Will you wash my wounds by weeping While this land of ours goes down? When the rising god of history starts to beat the drums of doom, When this rich and diverse culture seals its democratic tomb; Will we march along in sorrow with a dumb, funeral tread? Will we make love tomorrow when america is dead? As the blood climbs through the rainbow May i hold your heart once more? As the color of our skin becomes our uniform of war; Will your warmth still slide into my grip When chaos marries dread? Will your womb receive my worship When our sacred land is dead? When america goes down, my love, when the time arrives to pay, For the malice of the piper and producer of the play And our image on the screen is of a sad and tragic clown, What will there be between us when america goes down? When america goes down . . . When america goes down . . . When america goes down . . . When america goes down . . .
