I sincerely believe that it takes a positive mindset to put any situation in proper perspective.
In talking to a crisis caller the other night, she mentioned that it was so hard to maintain a positive perspective when dealing with difficult people. I told her though that she shouldn't play into it though and enable him to continue his negativity. After all, sometimes it just takes a little bit of positivity on our end to help continue to spread a bit of positive energies to others.
The example I provided to her was:
He comes in and says (grumbling), "I have had a horrible day. The rain messed up my day today and, dang it, it kept me from getting anything done and now I am so much further behind. I am never going to be able to catch up. Move out of my way!"
Her response could be (to throw him off a bit), "Well, at least, the rain's waters will be able to help fill up the rivers and lakes so that we can have some fun in the waters this summer!"
As I moved forward to talk about a new subject matter, my caller started giggling so much. I asked her, if she was okay. She said that I told her that as if I knew her husband. I laughed and told her that, no, but I have been around plenty of negative people in my lifetime.
Letting them bring you down with their negativity isn't healthy for your own well being. No sense in allowing that to happen, even if they insist that they want to be "Mr. Negativity" (or, "Ms. Negativity", if the shoe fits). Who knows?? A little bit of positive ideas implanted in their heads just might make them take a new perspective on life!!!
