I did something the other day that gave me a great idea to suggest to all of you. Let me briefly explain. I had just arrived at my accountant’s office to drop off some papers, only to find one parking spot available in front of the building. This is one of those big office buildings that has a large parking garage in the rear but also has a few highly sought after metered spaces conveniently placed in front of the building. As these are usually taken, I was excited to see the open space upon my arrival, and opted for it since I was going to be in and out very quickly. As I got out of my car and was preparing to put a quarter in the meter, I noticed that a police officer was checking the meters and walking my way. I also noticed that the meter for the car parked in front of me had run out and was showing red. So what did I do? I reached into my pocket and put the only other coin I had, a dime, into his meter and then went on my way. He didn’t get a ticket, and he will never know that I helped him. This brings me to my wellness suggestion for you today.
I suggest you take my lead and do something nice for someone today without even letting them know you did it! Just pick someone at random and do something nice or kind for them without letting them know it was you who did it. It could be someone you work with, a friend, a family member, or a total stranger, like I did. It really doesn’t matter who it is because the benefit here isn’t really for them at all. The one who will benefit most from this activity is you. Random acts of kindness will build your character, bolster your self-concept and improve the quality of your life. I know this because I do it all the time. Try it today and tell me it doesn’t make you smile, feel better and like that person in the mirror all the more!
