"Political correctness gone mad!!", We hear it all the time.
The idea behind political correctness is to gradually erode acts and thoughts of prejudice. To bridge the gap between different sections of society. To send a strong signal that prejudicial abuse and discrimination is unacceptable.
This has largely been carried out by focusing on language. It has been long known that a change in language effects the thought provesses, which obviously changes behaviour.
However - has it gone too far? The human mind processes difference - that is how all of our senses work. How we chunk information, how we form our social groups. When we see someone taht looks or talks differently from us, we notice it. The same as we notice a mark on a shiney marble floor, or a grey hair amongst the black.
isn't it better to notice these differences, to accept them , to understand and talk about them? Instead, arne't we scared of asking those questions, because we are scared of being branded rascist / prejudice?
Examples much appreciated. A good healthy dicussion with no insults please!!
