Happy Mothers Day :)

I first want to wish all moms, all single dads that take on the role of mom and dad, all grammas, all moms to be and all 2nd moms a Very Happy Mothers Day!

Through gods gift and lots of prayers I was given the title of mom almost 9 years ago.  At an early age, I found out I wasnt able to have children.  My hopes and dreams of being called mommy were shattered. My dreams of walking hand and hand with my little one, teaching a child everything I know, attending PTA meetings, laughing with, crying with and growing older with my child was gone.  Until one day, I decided I was going to be a mom.  Through the adoption process, I became a mom almost 9 years ago.  I was given my gift of a beautiful daughter the day she was born.  Through a long and dragged out process, I picked her up brand new at the hospital.  This was the most wonderful and memorable day of my life.  I was now a mommy !!   I look forward to Mothers Day as a day i remember as god answering my prayers and a gift from my dad.  My dad passed away exactly one year prior to the day my daughter was born.  We knew it was going to be a difficult day as I was very close to my dad and my mom was dreading the day.  As we headed to mass that day and then i took mom to lunch and the cemetery, we both were very sad.    I had to go into work for  a short time, and thats when i rec'd the phone call that she was born early!!  Not only a gift from god, but a gift from my dad on the anniversary of his death.    I can't wait to see what my daughter has planned this year.  She creates our day.  She plans the day as her gift to me.  Sometimes it has been going to a playground, her making my card and gifts, breakfast in bed (yes, it may be cold cereal and an apple) but her heart is in it.

But--- as this day approaches, I cant help but remember my mom who is now in heaven watching us.  She is the person who taught me how to be a good mom.   I knew someday when I grew up i wanted to be the mom she was.  She was always there to clean the cuts, give a hug and kiss to make the pain go away in any situation.  She taught me all the rules of life and how to love a child.  We created little traditions that were ours.  We did certain little things on holidays, we had little sayings, we had a bond that could not be broken.  Not only was she my mom, she was my best friend.

And now i have created traditions with my daughter.  My daughter was equally as close to gramma.  When my mom passed away a year ago, my daughter and I came up with a little tradition.  Being young, she wanted to make sure grampa was waiting for her and that they would have a party to welcome her to heaven. So my daughter and I came up with a little gift for gramma.   We purchased balloons- yellow ones, because yellow was grammas favorite color.  We had welcome home printed on the balloons.  At the end of the funeral, at the cemetery, my daughter asked everyone to stay put.  We went to the car and got the bouquet of balloons.  She explained gramma went to heaven and she wanted to make sure the got a nice welcome, so as she passed out the balloons, she told everyone the balloons were filled with love, hugs and kisses from her and I... and asked everyone to send them up to heaven when she counted to three so gramma would have them for her party in heaven.  There was not a dry eye as when my daughter counted to three, and said let go, everyone let the balloons go sending them to gramma in heaven !!

Now we continue this tradition on all holidays, sending balloons up to heaven for gramma and grampa.  (and yes, you can get biodegradeable ones so it doesnt hurt birds, etc.)  We go to the dollar store, and she always picks out a plain yellow one for gramma and a blue one for grampa.  She writes messages on the balloons and we both sign them ... " loving and miss you always".... this has really helped my daughter feel connected to her grandparents.... we sure do miss them!  So Happy Mothers Day Mom, we love and miss you and will be sending you lots of love, hugs and kisses for Mothers Day.
