Hammer and Chisel
You sorted through the marble white
Of alabaster milk
You ran your fingers slowly over
With eyes closed dreamed of silk
Your hands so strong and mighty sure
Of this marble you would procure
A piece of work your master¡¦s call
You would chip and chisel small
Hammering away to release it from
This pallid rock to succumb
Your vision seen through your mind¡¦s eye
Slow the process, rush not your style
Fancy flourish only comes with a brush
But in this marble there is no rush
For one mistake
This marble may break
Hammer and chisel to release this beauty deep
Of wonders that your fingers keep
Smooth away the rough edges--see
Deep within this marble be
A beauty your hands will work and pound
Until all that is witnessed
A masterpiece found
Toil away the hours to days
Slowly bringing forth from a clouded haze
The vision when you first felt cold
This marble that would break the mold
Time a friend to your master¡¦s mind
Hammering away to seek and find
The truth beneath the layer¡¦s mired
To release the masterpiece desired
Pound
Chip
Sanded and brushed
Speaking to the marble--hushed
Words of patience steady strong
For soon the form was taking on
Features pleasing forming nice
Your mind released its will--entice
Entice the artist
A lust to complete
Visions for the master¡¦s treat
Not yet you would say to the marble steed
Not time for you the hands agreed
Delicate strikes of force be grand
But blows are plenty to form this stand
Strength in symmetry guided true
To release the marble¡¦s essence do
Do with care to chisel out slow
The marble now releasing its purest glow
Smile on the lips of the master¡¦s face beam
For eyes full of life brought forth now gleam
Lips developed full set wide
Chisel formed as his fingers guide
Body pounded out still be
Hidden in the marble see
Weeks have turned to months now year
But still the master works don¡¦t fear
To rush a masterpiece so fine
Would be like pouring out fine wine
A waste for sure that is what all would say
It¡¦s better to take your time and stay
Stave off on parts that require the most
To give newfangled life to this host
Time is on the master¡¦s side
He will create and then decide
When the marble be right--formed
When the masterpiece be warmed
Gratified with fingers trace
The pursed full lips on his beauties face
To travel slowly down the nape
To a robe that lies open--gape
Revealing delicious bosoms proud
Not hidden under a heavy shroud
Attention to detail the master¡¦s hand
A beautiful creation bowing on this stand
Standing in awe, struck by his sight
Created with care and loving might
Hammered and chiseled for weeks and years
Brought forth from labor and many tears
For understand when this piece first began
This form to be released
Laid within the master¡¦s mind--plan
