Am I mistaken? Didn't we start this country with the intention of stoping persecution and injustice. If thats so, then how do we justify the way the media crucify's someone simply for being accused of something. We can't have it both ways, either we admit the justice system doesn't work the way it is and change it. Or we have faith in the system and not make public a persons name who hasn't actually been found guilty of any crime.
How many times a day to you hear the words "so and so has been charged with this or that crime"? Now compare that to how many times you here the words, "so and so was charged but was found innocent of all wrongdoing"? And besides, even if you heard those words, the seed of doubt has already been planted. For the record I'm not talking about celebrities. We all know we get to hear every little stupid detail of celebrites lives, but thats another post.
I'm talking about your John Smiths and Mary Jones's. Nowdays, simply being accused of a crime can ruin someones name/life/career. Now don't get me wrong, If a person actually did a horible crime then by all means they should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
But what about the school teacher that loses his job because some teenage girl wants some attention and it turns out he never did anything wrong? Bet he doesn't get another job anytime soon. Or that single mom that gets accused of beating her kids only to find out she gave them two licks for cussing?
I am all for freedom of speech, but what I don't like is that all these accusations and opinions are passed on as FACT by our trusted media sources. They don't come right out and say, this person is a bad person you should hate them. But it sure is implied.
Maybe the fault isn't in the people that report these things afterall, maybe it's the "sheep" who allow the media to tell them how to think. The ones that take everything they hear at face value without really knowing the whole story or all the facts and then scream persecutions from the rooftops.
Please, next time you hear something on the news, make sure you remember that their are two sides to every story and try to think to yourself, "what if I was in their shoes and the whole world was against me?" before you decide that they should burn in hell.
