Photobucket Greeters / Cabana Boys/Bar Tenders The primary role of the Greeter is to welcome people into the lounge. Anytime someone enters the lounge they should be personally greeted. Visitors are more likely to want to stay if they feel they will get attention and not be ignored. Most people will leave a lounge when they get bored and don't feel like they are getting any attention. Greeters help to avoid this. The Greeter role should be more than just saying hi. Responsibilities 1. Welcome everyone who enters the lounge. Think of it as the Greeter is right inside the door to the building welcoming them to the establishment. If it were real life they would probably offer to take their coats or hats. If possible try to personalize the greeting so that the person doesn't feel like it is a scripted greeting. If they look at the other greetings it would be nice if they didn't feel like they got a carbon copied greeting. 2. Help new comers get into the spirit of the lounge. Ask them questions or let them know what the current topic of the lounge is. Many new people will feel uncomfortable just jumping into a topic with a bunch of regulars. They may feel the lounge has a social status and that they would have to work to be accepted. The greeter can help them feel more welcomed by maybe letting them know what is being discussed and to ask what their thoughts are. If there is no general topic of conversation then perhaps the greeter will start it just by probing the new entries with questions about themselves. 3. Welcome back people who have refreshed or returned. Many times after a new DJ takes over or a person gets on cam most of the room will refresh. The greeters can still welcome them. The refresh greeting is more than likely going to be a general welcome back than individual due to the volume. If someone was in the lounge before and had just returned then the greeter would welcome them back. If the greeter knew the reason why the person left then they might ask a question or two on that topic. Example would be if the person left to go to the store the greeter could inquire as to how the drive was or how busy the store was. This helps the person feel more welcomed back like they were missed. 4. Give patrons a proper send off. This means that if a person is leaving for a short while then the greeter may say "hurry back" as to let them know they should return as soon as they can. This helps people feel like their presence will be missed while they are gone. If they are leaving for the day/night then letting them know to have a good night gives the patron a positive feeling when leaving and will likely help them to decide to return the next day. The greeter is the first person that a new visitor will encounter when they visit the lounge. They can make the difference on if a person stays or leaves. They also can make the difference on the general impression that a person gets from a lounge. It is not always possible to do all these roles at once and that is partially why many times there is more than one greeter. It is not expected that all these roles can be done all the time but a greeter should do their best. They should not ignore their duties just because they are busy with conversation or watching a cam. If it is decided that a greeter is not doing their job it is possible that they might be let go. Many times greeters are considered the entry level position for the lounge. Doing this job right could make the difference on if another role in the lounge is even considered
