Wind chill warnings issued in Saskatchewan, ManitobaLast Updated: Sunday, January 4, 2009 CBC NewsA deep freeze has descended on much of central and southern Saskatchewan, along with most of southern Manitoba.In Saskatoon, the temperature reached –40 C on Sunday morning, with the wind making it feel like –53.People in Regina shivered as the temperature plunged to –36, while it felt like –52 with the wind chill.Wind-chill warnings were in effect for all of south-central Saskatchewan to the Alberta border, and as far north as Meadow Lake.Blizzard warnings were issued for Moose Jaw, Maple Creek, Shaunavon, Eastend and Cypress Hills.Travel was not recommended for areas around Regina, Lloydminster and many parts of the southwest.Winds hit southern ManitobaIn Manitoba, wind-chill warnings were issued for the southern part of the province, excluding the far southeast."The combination of 20-30 km/h winds and temperatures of –25 to –30, produced wind chills of –40 or lower this morning across most of southern Manitoba," meteorologist Rob Paola said.While southeast Manitoba was to escape the worst of the cold, that region received the most snow on Saturday, as much as 20 centimetres.Winnipeg and the rest of southern Manitoba received 10 to 12 centimetres.Forecasters say Winnipeg has as much snow pack now as it did all winter last year.
