Everyone know what has been going on with me medically, so here goes an update!
Tuesday I have a follow up appointment to double check exactly what is going on with my breathing. While I am breathing better, I'm not comfortable with how long it is taking to heal up.
Today was Air Show Saturday, an annual event for me.. I go down to the airport, sit around and totally enjoy the presentations of the various aircraft as well as the flight demonstrations.
Well, today didn't turn into a normal enjoyment of the Air Show.
Arriving at the Air Show at 10 am, it all appeared to be another beautiful Saturday in this paradise we call Florida. Nice, 75 - 80 degrees, cloud covered and a real nice breeze. Found great seating area on the grass, alongside the runway, in show center. Everything that was anything in the show would be going on directly in front of my party. This was showing me it was going to be a wonderful day.
But unknown to me, this was soon to change.
There was a magnificent demonstration from our local RC Aircraft club of the flying abilities of their 1/8th scale jet aircraft.. Boy can those things fly... Hopefully the pictures come out well.
Went for a walk around the tarmac, some beautiful static displays of old war birds, T-111's, Corsairs, P-51 Mustangs there was a lot more than they had ever had before. The highlight came when I looked over and saw the 7 USAF Thunderbirds lined up, too far away to see them well, but sitting out in front of them was Czechoslovakian Aero L-39C painted to look like one of the US Navy Blue Angels.
Did this Navy Mans heart good to see that it took only 1 Angel (and a fake one at that) to protect the seven USAF Thunderbirds. Well after seeing that, and feeling much better about the standings of my chosen branch of service in the overall picture, I returned to my seat (of course stopping at the Navy recruiting tent bragging of my findings on the way).
Go there just in time to watch a demonstration flight of Angel 7. Such a beautiful bird in flight!
Well after that demonstration it was time for a smoke break (no giving me a hard time, it is better than public intoxication) followed by an up close visit to Angel 7 for photos and an autograph! Then off to the food pits to grab something to drink and a Philly Cheese Steak.
Missed the Bi-plane demonstration standing in line but made it back to my seat to watch the P-51 Mustang aerial display. Another beautiful bird in flight. So agile yet so intimidating. It is no wonder they were so popular in their day. Well, that display ended with a wall of fire pyrotechnics show that sent a wave of heat straight through the crowd. I'm thinking my perfect seating wasn't so perfect...
When the heat came through, my breathing stopped... 100 yards to the awaiting EMS unit to find that everything so perfect, wasn't quite as perfect as it seemed.
I was suffering advanced heat stroke, pulse over 140, body on full shut down mode and temperature going through the roof. It was all I could do to stop them from rushing me to the hospital for what would have most likely been an extended stay.
2 in the afternoon, and my Air Show Saturday was cut short... Not permitted to return to the tarmac, I returned home.
That is the last thing I remember between 2 and 7 this evening...
I came to, realizing I was coughing, so hard it caused me to black out. This was followed by another coughing and blackout within 20 minutes. One was worse than the other, but I don't know which...
So the long an short of this is... Even if you are used to the Florida Sun, it will overcome you. Be very careful out there, if you are coming to visit, be even more careful. And.. Of course
