Sometime's I feel bad for my fish. I mean as far as I know fish don't think about a whole lot although Finding Nemo would have us think otherwise. Which could be the reason I am feeling this way in the first place ( I have a 2 yr old so I have seen this movie like 340 times) I don't think that fish feel pain just from being in a tank. A red-and-blue betta and a plecaustomus (?) are the lucky inhabitants of my particular tank. Its the only mix I could find that would actually co-exist peacefully. The tank is more than enough room for them. I wonder though in nature how far one fish travels in its life. I wonder if it is cruel to the fish to keep it confined in the tank. It doesnt ever in its life see a real blue ocean, sea, pond, or puddle. The only blue water it has probably ever been in is that shitty toilet bowl blue stuff that you see them all lined up in at wal-mart. Half of them don't even make it out of those sad little cups. And then half of the ones that do actually make it out ending up sitting in a cup on some dick's office desk for about 6 months till they give up fighting. They are called Chinese fighting fish and rightly so, not because if you put them together they fight, but because their whole life is a fight. A fight to stay alive in a cup. A fight to not want to go "belly up" just from sheer boredom and lack of scenery. Of course I am probably just projecting my own views on the fishy, who by the way I so creatively named fishy. For all I know the fish is probably more thatn content to live in his little fishy cave and stare at his reflection for company. (the plectobmus doesnt do much and sometimes actually tries to "eat" fishy.) I refer to it as he because generally they do not sell female bettas. And if you have a betta in a tank with no filtration you will notice a lot of bubbles at the top of the bowl. This is a nest. The male betta makes the nest for the babies and then if they do not leave soon enough, he will try to kill them. So really I dont feel so bad that Fishy has no company. He is quite the onery little fucker. Sometimes at night when all he can see is his reflection he will fan out his little fins and gills and strut around looking at himself. He is actually doing it right now. What a vain little fish.
