So Walker began preheating the oven � unaware that her friend, JJ Sandy, 25, was storing a magazine from his .45-caliber Glock 21 in the oven. The magazine exploded about 9 p.m. ET, spraying casing fragments at high speed and striking Walker. She managed to pick some of the fragments out of her leg and chest and then took a bus to the hospital, where she was treated and released.

I admit to feeling a little smug reading this headline wondering what backwards land this took place in.� The frontpage gangrape death in India has lead to more in depth stories about the plight of women's issues and wholesale corruption in Indian society.� Barely a week goes by without a story about violence and oppression in Muslim countries.�� So I wondered where did this story happen.� This story that harkens back to rape being a property crime against the man instead of a violent crime against the woman.

Any feeling of moral (or legal) highground went out the window when I saw what far fetched outdated 16th century land that this court case took place in.� California.

A reminder that outmoded laws and ways of thinking are not something you need a passport to be a part of.

The victim said her boyfriend was in the room when she fell asleep, and they'd decided against having sex that night because he didn't have a condom and he had to be somewhere early the next day.

Morales pretended to be her boyfriend in the darkened room, and it wasn't until a ray of light from outside the room flashed across his face that she realized he wasn't her boyfriend, according to prosecutors.

"Has the man committed rape? Because of historical anomalies in the law and the statutory definition of rape, the answer is no, even though, if the woman had been married and the man had impersonated her husband, the answer would be yes," Judge Thomas L. Willhite Jr. wrote in the court's decision.

The appeals court added that prosecutors argued two theories, and it was unclear if the jury convicted Morales because the defendant tricked the victim or because sex with a sleeping person is defined as rape by law.

The court said the case should be retried to ensure the jury's conviction is supported by the latter argument.

The 25,000-plus signers of a "We the People" petition calling on the federal government to start building a Death Star by 2016 must be feeling as peppy as the Rebel Alliance, now that they've put their plea over the threshold that will trigger a response from the White House.

Campaigns on 4chan, Reddit and Twitter helped put it over the top with a day to spare. This means someone at the White House will have to take a good look at the Death Star issue and draw up a response (unless officials decide it would be improper to speak out on something that's more appropriately addressed by, say, the Defense Department, NASA or Lord Vader).

VAUGHN, N.M.-- A drug-sniffing dog now is the only certified member of the police force in the small eastern New Mexico town of Vaughn. Police Chief Ernest "Chris" Armijo decided to step down Wednesday after news stories reported that he wasn't allowed to carry a gun because of his criminal background. "He decided the attention was distracting," said Dave Romero, an attorney for the town. State officials said Armijo couldn't carry a gun since acknowledging that he owed tens of thousands of dollars in delinquent child support payments in Texas. Armijo also faces new felony charges after being accused of selling a town-owned rifle and pocketing the cash.

A cool and happy headline for today...if you like dogs and dolphins.

from the story - Turbo might be a bullet on land, but the 11-year-old Doberman was a lame duck in the water until he was saved by two unlikely heros - curious dolphins.

The flippery rescue rangers were drawn to their usually land-dwelling mammal relative after the dog somehow became stranded in the waters off Marco Island, NBC 2 reported.

Cindy Burnett, Turbo's owner, said the dog got out of the yard Sunday night but she couldn't find it. He was found Monday afternoon in a canal by a neighbor drawn to the struggling dog by the splashing of two dolphins around it.
