by Karen FosterSome smoothies are made to taste great. Others have a combination of antioxidants that can really benefit our health. This smoothie has both. It has a superb taste and combines four important ingredients known to have an effect not just on weight loss, but more importantly fat loss.

No one food automatically burns fat since fat loss only happens when a combination of caloric expenditure, intake and metabolic response are at optimal levels. However, these four fruits have been shown to increase the body's ability to respond to metabolic changes that can eventually lead to mobilization of fats and weight loss.

INGREDIENTS:
1-1/2 cups frozen or fresh blueberries
1/2 cup grapefruit
1/2 cup coconut milk
1 tsp lime juice
2 fresh mint leaves

Combine all ingredients (except mint leaves) in a high speed blender. Pour and serve with mint leaves as garnish. Eat the mint after the smoothie. It stops food cravings and improves the slow of bile through the stomach.

Blueberries: Recognized as good source of flavonoids, especially anthocyanins, blueberries have a diverse range of micronutrients, with moderate levels of the essential dietary mineral manganese, vitamin C, vitamin K and dietary fiber. Not only do they diminish the pro-inflammatory effects of the high-fat diets, but they break down existing fat cells and prevent new ones from forming, making them a potentially powerful weapon in the fight against rising obesity.

Coconut: Pasteurized milk is a dead source of nutrients for any smoothie. Coconut on the hand is rich with medium chain triglycerides (MCFAs) which increase the liver's rate of metabolism by up to 30 percent.Unlike the long chain fatty acids contained in animal fats, medium chain fatty acids are small enough to enter mitochondria – the cells' energy burning powerhouses – directly where they can then be converted to energy. It also helps keep you full so you're less likely to snack on junk food. Both coconut oil and unsweetened coconut milk contain MCFAs.

Grapefruit: Grapefruits can treat diabetes, fight cancer, heal stomach ulcers, reduce gum disease and even keep stroke and metabolic syndrome at bay as well as drugs. Many studies confirm that grapefruit is an excellent weight loss food. In one study at Johns Hopkins University, women who eat grapefruit daily shed almost 20 pounds on average in only 13 weeks, without changing anything else in their diet or lifestyle. Researchers have found it works by genetically reprogramming the liver to burn up excess fat, rather than store it.

Lime Juice: Both lime and lemon juice both help to boost your metabolic rate. As this rate increases, your body burns more calories. Limes contain citric acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, bioflavonoids, pectin, and chemicals that promote immunity and fight infection. It is an excellent digestive aid and liver cleanser.
