Mormons- they on my mind cuz i live in utah
People say stupid stuff like, " If we allow gay marriage, then we would have to allow polygamy too. "
I don't have a problem with polygamy if it's all volontary. Americas great cuz it came from people who left england, sailed clear across the ocean to get away from things like religious terany, the church of england, and later on declared independance partially because of unfair trials, and treatment of suspected people. Now today, we have people trying to pass laws based on faith based innitiatives, we are doing the same thing england was doing with people who are suspected of hostillities towards the us. ( If you kill a us citizen, then that seems like a hostillity towards the us, or rob a bank, or a great many number of other things. And you only need to be suspected of doing these things too, combine that with the patriot act, and that's really fucking scary ) We made ammendmendts and stuff to protect people from things like this but some powerfull people just choose to ignore them.
So anyway, the gov. made polygamy illeagle in the terretorries cuz they didn't like the mormons basicly. Then coincadently god said they shouldn't practice it anymore... And Utah became a state. It seems unfair to me that they were persacuted for their beliefs in polygamy simply because the rest of the nation didn't seem to like it that much. What were they hurting anyway?
Throught time the mormons have been persecuted by others. And now they make laws and such based on their own religion, restricting other people's religion, and [ ability to practice ] beliefs. There are stilll many that would say their religion is bad, and is not good for the world, and other stuff. Yet it's still not illegal for them to marry and have children and spread ( spread, lol, yah right, FORCE is probably the better word. Not saying that other people with other beliefs and religions don't do the same thing. ) their beliefs on to their children. They seem to have many of the same arguments against same sex marriage as people have against them. Maybe it's the cycle of abuse thing. Abused children are more likly to abuse their children. People who are treated baddly, are somehow more likly to treat other people badly. Maybe religions are enittys much like people are?? And maybe they evolve ( or devolve ) the same way much as people do.
People point out extreme examples of each, and say well what if.... You can do that with about anything though. What about making it legal for any man to marry any woman? It's likly that idiots will marry idiots and then create more idiots. Seems like the sate has a compelling interest to prevent stuff like that. Maybe two violent people will marry, and have violent children, It seems like states would have a compelling interest to prevent that one too. One reason I've heard for not allowing different races to get married is because the children get treated badly. The same argument can and probably is used for stopping same sex couples from getting married. It's also likly that poor people's childrren won't be treated well by others. The kids get picked on because they don't have as nice of clothes or whatever the other kids have. People might say it's not fair to the children to have to grow up in certain neiborhoods, so maybe it should be illeagle for people who live in certain neihborhoods to get married? Weird people. Weird people's children are made fun of because of how their parents are sometimes. Their kids may be weird themselves, so should it be illeagle for weird people to get married??? And also as mentioned before, kids shouldn't have to grow up in a household where parents don't know shit about raising kids, so people who are stupid, and/or just don't know how to take care of children should have to take a class in order to get married. If we are going to screen marriage licenses, we need to start screening them a whole lot more closly than making sure it's a man and a woman that are applying for them.
Or do people have that fundamental right to marry who they choose regaurdless of their intelligence, or education, or social status, or where they live, or their knowledge of how to raise children? Out of all the important factors that may decied if it's a good thing or a bad thing to get married, I think what body parts those two people have should be taken the lightest into consideration to decied wether they should be able to get married, if at all.

Marriage- what some people call an institution made for providing an ideal envirement to raise happy productive children. And that's why people get bennifits for being married, to encourage them to have that envirement. - It's just one of many ideas associated with marriage.
How much more compelling interest do states have preventing same sex marriages than poor people marrying?, weirdos marrying?, mulit racial couples?, idiots?, psychos? How many of these other groups have they stopped from marrying? Maybe I need to start a petittion agains idiots marrying each other and see if I can get it on a ballot sometime. Same with psycos, and violent people, and people who were abused as children, and people who have had religlion forced upon them as children.
Regaurdless of all that above, people are usually going to live their lives how they choose anyway, wether they be gay, or in a polygamus lifestyle. It's just a matter of the rubber stamp from the government. Psychos will have kids wether gov. sanctioned or not. Not givving people that ( stamp ) doesn't help anyone, it only hurts people.
