On this first full day of Fall, I figured I'd post a section of a poem I wrote about the seasons.
Fall
The sight of the leaves’, magnificent color display
The sound of rakes, on a crisp autumn day
The smell of the turkey, baking in the house
The sight of birds gathering, before heading south
The feel of comfort, of an old sweatshirt on you
The sound of Hail to the Victors, and Let’s Go Blue
The sight of flannel shirts, and turtleneck sweaters
The feel of a cold front, and rapid falling temperatures
The taste of a crisp apple, picked from a tree
The sound of the salmon, swimming upstream
The smell of the grills, in the air at the tailgate
The sight of the year’s, very first snowflake
The taste of pumpkin pie, and pumpkin seeds
The sound of ghosts and goblins, on Halloween
The sight of the antlers, now on the deer
The taste of piping hot chili, and really cold beer
The sound of the grass, crunchy after the frost
The sight of children, on a bright yellow school bus
The feel of indian summer, being unusually warm
The sound of leaves rustling, in the piles they form
The sight of the winged helmet, at the big game
The smell of wet leaves, after the autumn rain
The taste of Thanksgiving dinner, at the family table
The sight of squirrels, burying as many nuts as able
The sound of geese, flying overhead
The sight of the mums, orange yellow and red
The taste of cider and donuts, in the early morning light
The sight of a harvest moon, on a clear frosty night
The feel of emotions, that is Michigan Football
The smell of burning leaves, on a brisk day in fall
The sight of the grass and trees, green they do lack
The feel of happiness, knowing that they will come back
The taste of candy, that comes from trick or treat
The sight of the amber, and golden fields of wheat
The feel of anticipation, for the coming holiday season
The sight of a lake, in the process of freezin’
The feel of satisfaction, after being well feed
The sound of preparing, for the cold season ahead
The smell of home, from the old house you enter
The feel of excitement, being ready for Winter
