LIVERPOOL, England -- Liverpool took advantage of Chelseas erratic defending to earn an emphatic 4-1 win on Tuesday, gaining a small measure of revenge for Saturdays FA Cup final loss and putting the Blues out of contention for fourth place in the Premier League. Golden Tate Super Bowl Jersey . Three days after Chelsea beat Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley, the Reds dominated from the start in their last home game of the season and were up 3-0 within 30 minutes. While Stewart Downing missed a penalty right before halftime and Ramires pulled one back for Chelsea after the break, Jonjo Shelvey took advantage of backup goalkeeper Ross Turnbulls blunder to put the game away with his first Premier League goal for Liverpool. "It was an excellent performance," Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish said. "The pleasing thing is the performance was matched by the result and also the fact the supporters could go away from the final match of the season here with a smile on their faces." Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo made eight changes from Saturday, and the players on the pitch seemed to already have their minds on the Champions League final against Bayern Munich as they looked lethargic throughout. A win against Bayern in Munich is now the only route for Chelsea back into the Champions League next season, as the loss means it cannot overtake Tottenham for fourth place. "It wasnt the team selection. We have to give credit to them (Liverpool)," Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo said. "We have played with these players the whole season and they have carried us so far and we still had a chance with two games to qualify for fourth spot. ... But you know how demanding it has been for us -- we have played every three days in the last eight weeks -- and I thought tonight I thought a team which was energetic and fresh mentally would give us a chance." Captain John Terry was one of the few holdovers from Wembley, but had a horrendous start to the game. Luis Suarez easily went past him as he produced a great run down the right side and into the area, and the Uruguay forwards attempted cross was knocked by Michael Essien into his own net in the 19th minute. Terry then slipped six minutes later to set Jordan Henderson free on goal, and the Liverpool player calmly slotted the ball past Turnbull. It was a similar scene to Terrys slip during Chelseas 5-3 loss against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge earlier this season, which set Robin van Persie free to score. Three minutes later, Andy Carroll headed the ball down for Daniel Agger to make it 3-0 and effectively make sure of a Liverpool victory in the last game at Anfield this season. The hosts looked likely to add a few more, as Stewart Downing blasted a great volley from outside the area against the crossbar before Carroll was knocked down in the area by Branislav Ivanovic for a penalty on the stroke of halftime. However, Downing hit the woodwork again, sending his spot kick against the post to leave Chelsea with a flicker of hope going into the break. That hope grew when Ramires pushed the ball over the line following a scramble in the area in the 50th, but another defensive mistake cost Chelsea again. Turnbull sent an attempted clearance straight at Shelvey, who blasted the ball into an empty net from 30 yards in the 61st to give Liverpool its biggest Premier League victory of the season. PARK Taehwan Ryan Cochrane thought he had advanced to the mens 400-metre freestyle swimming final after securing the eighth and final spot.NEWARK - The Kings can taste it. Jeff Carter iced the overtime winner in the second game of the Stanley Cup Final on Saturday night, catapulting Los Angeles to a commanding 2-0 series lead and a 10th consecutive victory on the road this spring (10-0).  While theyve put themselves in the most enviable of positions by swiping a pair from the Devils at the Prudential Center, the Kings remain reluctant to proclaim anything beyond the present. "Youve got to keep the eye on the prize," Justin Williams said firmly after the 2-1 victory. "We havent accomplished anything yet. You look at last year (Vancouver also went up 2-0 before falling in seven games to Boston), who won the first two games and who ended up winning the Stanley Cup?" "It feels great," added Jarret Stoll, "but you dont win anything with two games. Youve got two more to go and those are definitely going to be the toughest. We all know that from experience this year in the playoffs." The eighth-seeded Kings have jumped out to 2-0 series leads in all four series this postseason, closing out the previous three opponents in decisive fashion; they swept the Blues in the second round while putting away the Canucks and Coyotes in five games apiece. Heading home to Los Angeles with a firm grip on the series and the first Stanley Cup in franchise history, the Western Conference champions have the ultimate finish line in sight. "I think the taste that guys feel in their mouth knowing theyre two games away is going to drive you even harder," Williams said of the Kings mindset for closing out the series. "Were not going to sit back, were not going relent, were not going to wait and see what theyve got, weve got to keep going forward. "Its not time to sit back. Its time to keep pushing at em." Five Points 1. Dustin Penner gave a well-deserved nod to the Kings best player on Saturday night, goaltender Jonathan Quick, who proved spectacular (yet again) with 32 saves. "I think we take him for granted a bit," Penner said of the 26-year-old from Connecticut. "Were just used to him making those huge saves. He makes em look easy. He was as good [tonight] as hes been all year if not better." The Vezina Trophy candidate shimmered with an almost unbeatable aura in the opening two frames - stopping all 20 shots he faced - before Ryan Carter and the Devils fourth line finally eluded him with a tip-in goal early in the third.  2. Kings general manager Dean Lombardi surely envisioned such a reward from Carter when he acquired the talented sniper from Columbus in February. Marshawn Lynch White Jersey. "Hes exactly what that is," Williams said of the long-time Flyer. "Hes a game-breaker. Hes a guy you might not see all the time, but he always ends up on the scoresheet with a couple goals. He always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Tonight he worked for his opportunity. He worked for his shot around the net, hung with it and made a great shot." While hes been quiet at times for the Kings in the postseason, Carter has managed five goals, including a pair of game-winners. 3. Matt Greenes reaction to Carters overtime snipe, "Pure elation," Greene said. "Thats it. It was awesome." 4. Drew Doughty channeled future Hall of Famer Scott Niedermayer with his end-to-end rush and goal in the first frame of game two, paying homage to the long-time Devils great afterward. "I actually remember Niedermayer when he played in New Jersey having a couple end-to-enders," Doughty said. "He was an unbelievable player here [and] everywhere he played. I always wanted to emulate him.  He alwaysscored some highlight goals that I remember." 5. The Devils were stung by a second consecutive 2-1 overtime defeat - they dropped game one on Anze Kopitars winner - controlling the action for long stretches yet remaining empty on results "I thought we played a lot better than game one, but same result," Martin Brodeur said after a sharp 30-save performance. "Its unfortunate. Again, a little luck on our side and we could be up 2-0 [in the series]. I think weve got to find that positive, go into L.A. and try to sneak one game as early as we can and go from there." "We cant do anything about it now," captain Zach Parise added. "Weve got to regroup. Again, thats a really good team. They make you work. They play really structured, really well defensively. They dont give you a lot of quality opportunities, but we do have a couple [opportunities] throughout the game and weve got to put em in. But yeah we cant do anything now, were down 2-0…Well regroup and try to win game three and go from there." Questioned on whether the Kings were the toughest opponent theyd faced in the postseason, Brodeur replied strongly in the affirmative. "By far," he said. "Theyre a complete team. Theyre a big team. They do a lot of good things out there. I think defensively we dont get anything for free and that makes it a little harder on the guys." ' ' '
