My name is Ruth Burns and my daughter and only child passed away after rupturing her spleen at cheerleading practice in August of 2005.She could have lived if 911 and Tewksbury Massachusetts did their job.911 was called twice and not only did Tewksbury not show at all but North Andover came instead.They took her to Tewksbury Hospital which is now for mental and drug issues only to wait for Med Flight who also was not there so they went to Saints Memorial in Lowell Massachusetts which is maybe 10 min from the gym they were at.It took 30 minutes for an ambulance to get to her never mind the time it took for a medical professional to get to her, she died from bleeding to death in the back of the ambulance. I tried to sue but no lawyers wanted my case and I tried 3 of them.My world has been ripped away from me, all I have left is a cat and 4 dogs, a PT mother who has recently become ill and 1 cousin and his 2 kids that I see maybe 3 times a year.I live alone and am on SS due to the fact I cannot perform my profession as a Surgical Veterinary Technician because I had to view her body in such a setting and it is a big trigger for me.I work 8 hrs a week for a friend of mine I have known for over 16yrs who has Myotonic MD which is rapidly progressing.If she wasn't a friend of mine I wouldn't be able to do that either because of my severe depression and there is no magic pill or words to cure it, I function to the best of my ability and wait for my turn to die.
About the scholarship, sorry about venting on this blog. I want to be able to give 2 of them out in 2009 at my Ashley's would have been High School, Medford high in Massachusetts. One for a student in support classes who wants to attend college and resembles Ashley's goals as well as give one to a cheerleader she was practicing with on her team, she made Varsity without even trying out because she had an excellent reputation as being one of the best fliers/cheerleaders in ability as well as personality. She was nice to everyone and not your typical cheerleader who are sometimes snobs and have a click.Ashley attended support classes for reading comprehension and spelling issues but wanted to go to law school and become a SVU detective just like Mariska Hartigay on Law and order. I started the fund in December of 2005 and will have it open until late April 2009, right before it is given out. I have had benefits but, unfortunately, not many people show and I end up spending more money than making it.I have managed to raise a little over $3,000 but would like to see more and even 5, 10, 20 dollars could make a difference. It is also Tax deductible like I wrote on top of this Blog.Sorry it is so long I guess I just had alot to say today.Take care everyone and always kiss your loved ones goodbye and tell them you love them, I was able to do so before she walked out the door to go to practice and I am so glad I did.
