Don't You See My scars

Tracy and Wolf was my most popular series bfore my page was deleted, Tracy is a young girl, horribly scarred, Wolf is a half caste Blackfoot indian. This story was written early in the piece before they found their wolf Grrrrrr. Tracy stood once more in front of the mirror. Fear drew her there each day, and held her trapped, staring at her own image in its reflection. Her 14-year-old face was scarred forever after the accident that had taken her brother's life, and the scars went deep into her soul. They pointed to the guilt she still felt, the guilt of her brother's death and now, a new guilt, the guilt of imposing her love on Wolf. She knew he loved her until she stood in front of that mirror, and then the questions came flooding in. "What if he just feels sorry for me?" and, "Why would he love someone like this?" The terrible, terrible mirror always told her that she was ugly, and presented its proof to her trapped eyes. How could she force her beloved Wolf to take such a disfigured girl as his wife? She spent her spare time planning out ways to leave him, to spare him the pain of loving her, to let him find others better and lovelier than herself. She had run away dozens of times, but was always drawn back by her love for that big, simple man. She took other boyfriends, to try and give him back his heart, and found quite simply that she could not live without that same big, wonderful heart, so full of love for her. Jenny, her younger sister, felt the pain in her soul, and came to stay with her often. It was in her sister's arms that she confessed she had tried to kill herself, using a big, old rifle that Wolf had stored in the barn. Placing it under her chin, she had whispered goodbye to Wolf and pulled the trigger. But the rifle was old, and unused for too long. It had jammed, and she had started to cry and left it in the barn as she ran to their cabin, tears streaming down her face. That night, as Tracy drove the old truck around and around the farm, the old radio blaring Wild Child to the frightened cows, as she tried to work out her anger and confusion, Jenny had a quiet word with Wolf. They talked for a long time, heads close together, until they heard the truck splutter and die as the gas ran out. ********************** Tracy jumped as Wolf’s reflection suddenly appeared behind her own in the mirror. His strong fingers stroked her cheek and he whispered, "You are so beautiful tonight." She swung around and screamed at him, "Don't you see my scars? I'm ugly. I'm not good enough for your love. Why don't you find someone who can love you properly?" She started to run past him until she saw the look of confusion and pain on his face, and suddenly she knew. He never saw her scars as ugly. He only saw them as a part of the girl he loved, adding to her beauty in his eyes, not taking from it. All of this time she had only been ugly in her own eyes. Her own imagination had told her Wolf thought so too. As if to confirm her new thoughts, Wolf said softly, "Tracy, you are the most beautiful girl in my world. You have touched my heart with yours, and that same heart sings whenever I see your wonderful face. You will never be anything less than beautiful to me." Suddenly she was holding him tightly, and she rose on her toes to kiss his cheek and whisper into his ear, "You big, silly, blind man. I love you so very much." She took his hand in hers, and as they walked out into the moonlight to listen to the distant wolves, she saw herself in the mirror once more. Her scars were the same as minutes before, but now the mirror told her that they were a thing of beauty to the only person in her life that really mattered the man she loved, Wolf. ************************ Far away in the mountains the wolves were howling, and with a sudden shiver up her spine, she knew that one day she would join them in that howl.
