My last blog seems really long ago. I know that I have not posted anything in awhile, so I guess that I should write about something. There are two more major topics that I want to talk about, but now is not the time for either of them, because in all due honesty, I am in too much of a good spirit.
I have taken up surfing since I arrived in California. I have a great wetsuit (RipCurl) and awesome booties for it (Freaksneaks). My board is cool...I have a blue-toned camoflauge themes 8.5 footer. Yes, I have a camo board...it was priced well, too! Anyway, I am enjoying the heck out of myself and find that I am laughing without shame as I splash around in the waters around Monterey. I don't think that I have laughed so hard in so long for no good reason besides being happy.
Well, the other day, I went out to Marina with a friend to check the surf and hit the water. Unfortunately, the surf report was not too inspiring. When we got there, we scouted out a place to hit the water, I usually go off a little away from the other surfers, because, well, I such for the moment. I am not worried about it, because each time that I put into the water, I get better. Time will make me a better surfer. I am just happy to report that I am much more comfortable on the board than when I first started.
So, the surf was actually hard to get out into. There was substantial wash in the impact zone making it difficult to get into a good position. However, we managed to eventually get out. So while we were waiting, I heard a noise behind me, and lo to my surprise there were three dolphins about an arm's length away from me! George, I could reach out and touch them!! HA HA
So, I stared for awhile as they moved along the coast...enough time to get pretty well knocked off my board from a wave...so much for my vaunted situational awareness. Anyway, we surfed for about an hour...no, still no sustained stand on the board...but I am getting better. So, as I was paddling back into position, a little head pops up. Hello, Mr. Seal. So, he stares at us for a little while, just looking plain curious. I let out a loud "ar, ar," which apparently means, "hey, come over here" in seal-ease. The little guy starts coming my way. He must have gotten within a hands breath of me before diving away, curiousity fully satisfied. Either that, or I wasn't his type. I guess that I look like a pretty decent looking seal in my wetsuit.
Finally, I spotted some frolicking sea otters, puttering around, doing cute sea otter things. It was pretty darn cute actually.
How can you beat that? Overall, the day was great. I had fun and the Sunshine made my day!
There is no deeper meaning to this story, I just had a really great day.
I guess that I finally had some time to De Oppresso Liber myself for a change.
The Truth is out there...
