Sometimes I wonder just how cynical and suspicious the world has gotten. There was a time when you could do a favor or a good deed for a friend without expecting anything in return but the satisfaction of knowing you helped someone out. Unfortunately, in today's world, if you even try to do something nice for someone you are immediately under suspicion. What are they up to? What do they expect in return? No one does anything without having an ulterior motive!
Well, guess what? There is still someone out here that is willing to do a good deed for someone and there is no ulterior motive involved. I don't think I am the only one who still believes that the satisfaction of knowing you helped someone out is it's own reward, but I'm sure there aren't many of us left.
Maybe I'm wrong, and there are lots of us? Perhaps I've been subjected to the cynicism and suspicion for so long it has jaded me? Nah, I don't think that for a second. If you are reading this and you agree that no one helps someone without getting something for themselves, then you are entitled to your opinion. However, if you are the type who has, or has always wanted to just do a good deed without any thought to what's in it for you then this is your opportunity. Use this Memorial Day weekend to go out and just help someone for no other reason than it will make you and the recipient of the good deed feel better. Think of it as saying 'Thank You' to all the men and women who have put their lives on the line so we can enjoy the freedom to help others or just sit selfishly and do nothing. The world is what you make it, and I'm making my world a little brighter by unselfishly helping others out. How about you?
