DMT : The spirit molecule
Although in this interview Joe Rogan sounds like an intellectual and enlightened being... most of what he says is based on the use of DMT for a "high".
I'm looking into and researching this from a psychological standpoint... as it is produced in the pineal gland ((in your brain)). The brain is what I love... he's right that your brain produces N,N-dimethyltryptamine ((DMT)) while your sleeping. But it's also produced in patients who suffer psychosis. In these patients DMT is produced at a much higher rater than when a normal brain is in REM state of sleep.
Rick Strassman ((A psychiatrist, whose work I love)) wrote a book ((which is much more profound and educated than Joe Rogan ((who I love, since he is a spokesman for UFC)). I love that CHI is part of Psychiatry....

The Book is The Spirit Molecule, which my mom recently bought me at Barnes and Noble. I don't think she realized the psychedelic under tones... :) Which is ok by me.
Instead of Joe's view of his high.... let examine the medical.
Typtamines produce serotonin ((neurotrasmitter)). Serotonin is what most people are lacking a little of if they are bi-polar 1 and 2, borderline personality, ADD, schizophrenia and many more mental health issues. In these events most Psychiatrist would prescribe SSRIs ((reuptake inhibitors)) to help the brain increase the level of serotonin available by binding to the postsynaptic receptor.
These ((SSRI's)) synthetic drugs include, but are not limited to:
Prozac
Lexapro
Celexia
Paxil
and Zoloft
DMT which is NATURAL, also increases the extracellular level of Serotonin .
Molecularly they are very similar...... which is interesting in its own right.
Sure, DMT can be used as an Entheogen.... just as marijuana can also be used in the same manner. But this doesn't mean that neither could be used SUCCESSFULLY in the medical field.
DMT can be found in many, many organisms.... from grass, animals, fungi, and the body's own metabolism...
The internet studies will tell you that there are no withdraws, or side effects from DMT... and that Shamans have used it for years. To these people I implore you.... please do not assume to know the brain. It's a very complex study that we still know so little about. What is a psychedelic trip,.... is it more than a side effect to a substance, hormone, or chemical ((synthetic or natural))??? It wasn't that many years ago that we were still triphening... or shocking people into normality.
These days we manufacture drugs based on chemical breakdowns that can be produced naturally with food. Take Omega 3 fatty acids ((salmon and such)).... they produce Serotonin... it's 4 bucks at GNC. Yet, the American public spends a fortune on prescriptions just to maintain the level of normalcy to function on a daily basis. ((not to mention supporting the MAJOR businesses that are the Pharmaceutical companys)).
I guarantee you that Perdue Pharmaceuticals has killed more people than DMT, and Acid combined!! ((they manufacture Oxycontin))
Psilocybin is another form of tryptamines.... ((shrooms)) which explains the best WHAT is CAN do!! Both of these "psychedelics" elevate blood levels of indoleacetic acid (IAA)during the time of peak effects, implying its role as a metabolite. ((*DMT*when used..ie: smoked, injected, or drank))....
Terrence McKenna is another good source on this.... although, his experiences with the drug are as that, a drug.
I wish that we had less laws against medical studies, and exploration. It's hard to advance in the field of Psychology when some of the most needed herbs, hormones, etc... are considered as controlled substances.
I doubt that few make it to this last line.... if you do, congrats.
