I remember growing up as a "science nerd" the "Monkey Scopes Trial" and the arguments for evolution and spontaneous generation of life here on earth. Everything seemed to be falling into place. The famous experiment in the 1960's that took a flask of water and gases like ammonia and methane(completely annerobic atmosphere) to simulate preanimate conditions here on earth, and passing an electrical discharge through them like lightening in our atmosphere for a few days and the cooked primordial soup that was produced yielded rich in "ammino acids", the building blocks of proteins. These in turn are the constituents of life. Intelligent design seemed very much on the ropes from a scientific perspective. And then a remarkable thing happened. A scientist who was a champion and long term proponent of evolution decided to do some analysis in propability, specifically on the likelihood that even one of the most simplest known organisms, a specific bacteria that is so primitive it only contains a bundle of twenty genes in its DNA could spontaneously arise within the known age of the universe. His findings were astounding. Each gene within the twenty present contains literally thousands of proteins. The laws of probability found that even a single protein could not be expected to spontaneously assemble itself within the known age of the universe. Never mind the fact that the thousands of proteins present are an interdependant system. They would all have to generate spontaneously together or life couldn't exist! If you adhere to the mathematics of probability then life could not have arisen here on earth. Almost certainly it was transported(possibly on comets?) Bacteria in outerspace go into suspended animation and can withstand this hostile enviroment. There actually is life on the moon and Mars now. We have inadvertently transported bacteria there on the space probes we have sent. Given the complexities of even the most simplest bacteria on earth and the mathematics of probability, the universe that we know is likely part of a far larger, far, far older structure than we have not yet seen given our limitations or is possibly one of many or even an infinite track of universes that may one day prove out . "M Theory ", string theories front runner implies the existence of multiple universes and somewhere in the middle of all this we may yet find the source of intelligent design.... we may yet find God. - MIKADEMUS
