Cool Hangings

Nothing Important, more like a diary entry...

took advantage of the gorgeous weather yesterday and went to a friend's cookout on a lake... real nice time... i got to display one of my odder talents and played oyster shucker for everone... i love rawboys... shucked about six dozen between 2pm and 8pm... drank, a good amount of vodka... didn't get wierd or out of hand and no blackouts...

got a ride home from a friend who was playing designated driver for everyone... felt real good to just be normal... maybe i'm back...

that's all... like i said nothing important...

There was a rare occurance yesterday and it actually began in the MuMMs.  One of the very conservative MuMMers and i exchanged a 'beer cooler' gift with a note of enjoy and cheers... We had skewered one another well and both chuckled over one another's jokes.

Here's the thing, it reminded me of our nation's history.  Until modern times, being members of the opposite party never meant hatred.   Both sides of the political spectrum used to be able to find commonground and compramise.  Winning meant helping the country not an agenda and folks used to be able have beers together regardless of political perspective.   Mean spiritedness was often left in the chambers and not in public.   Of course there were exceptions.  But on the whole our natiopn was built upon the principles of comprmising.   Would that that spirit would return.

Blogs

I find it strangly trying that Most of my blogs draw very little attenion and reamin largely unread.  It seems the only time they really draw any readers and/or comments is when they are angry and hurtful towards folks here on fubar... and those are the entries I'm least proud of, whether i feel i was right or wrong.

When I first joined fubar it was to blog, but I had hoped to blog mostly about politics, maybe some poems and stories.  So I am going to try to get back to that, it's more of who I am and I hate being taken out of myself.

To conclude... I will try not to let Fu be real enough to get wrapped in it...  I'm going back to doing what I love writing... editorials, poems and stories.  If I've pissed you off fogedaboud it... that was yesterday and I'll probably do it again, if you've blocked me..., what do I care... and why the hell would you be reading this?

Have fun, and enjoy... embrace chaos whenever you can.

P.S.: no one will ever again tell me who i can or can't be friends/family with...!!!

Before I begin this, please note, I am a practicing Catholic and was once in the seminary studying to be a priest.  I know some Christains don't consider Catholics real christains, but I'll save that arguement for another day.  For those of you who are non-christains, this blog still has significance, because I won't be approaching this from a purely religous point of view, rather historical and it still provides a good moral tale and a deeper understanding of the Christains you do live amongst.

Now, first we do have to suspend reality and accept the Christain faith as real.  The common thread all Christain sects accept is Christ born of a virgin, god becomes man, later is crucified and ressurects.  What they believe as significant, god born as man is unique... wrong Odin and Zeus, while no born Human, often come to earth in fleshy form.  Hercules,  demi-god, born human.  Christ dies ad through it saves the world... again Osirus(spelling) dies and saves his world.  The resurrection is the most significant 'act' of christ.  Well maybe.

What they really miss in Christmas:  The truly unusal part of Christmas and hence the significance of true Christianity from a historical perspective is this.  Christ was powerless!  Prior to, and unique still, is Christ is not great. He comes for the meek and the humble.   All other religions prior to Christ, god is a mighty figure.  All other gods appeared as powerful creatures or personifictions of perfect human traits.  Christ's humble beginings remain throughtout his life nd again is unique.  He is never associated with the rich, the warrior caste, or the politically conected.  He comes for the poor, the sinners, and the pariahs.  He makes apostles of fishermen, just a step above untouchable, and tax collectors, traitors to Israel.  Agin unique.

The other point so over looked by Christains is Christ laid down 2 laws and ONLY 2 laws.  Love God and love thy neighbor.  In one parable, he denounces material wealth and plainly states that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.  Want to gain perspective on that debate?  Read or rent the movie "In the Name of the Rose" the debate on poverty is the backdrop.   Christ also states the he fulfillthe old covenant, law, and sets forth a new one.  This renders the "rules" of the old testament obsolete, therefore, any preacher/priest spouting off old testament rules is not truly christain.

To wrap this up.  While the resurection is significant, christains tend to downplay the real significane of Christmas because it runs counter to what they want.  First off, Christ destroyed all the old testament rules leaving two bsic rules and no banning of anyone, so it takes away control through fear of damnation.  Second, and much more significant, Christ's humble beginnings and denouncing of wealth and the wealthy, runs opposed to the finacial power and greed found in most christains, their churches, and leaders.

This is a Christmas song, and I like many can't figure out how to embed this in my blog so it will be in my comment.  A little background first...

As stated before, I am a socialist, not afraid to admit it.  It's not about government control and the bullshit that conservative talk radio accuse the current president of.  Socialism is about workers, workers rights/self ownership and representation for labor by the government.

This song does relate  TRUE story.  It's important to me because it concerns poor workers on strike and Italians working in an area with very few italians, and were therefore hated...

The song is written and sung by Woody Guthrie...

Merry Christmas...

The Light

Why am i attracted to poison?

Last night i confided in someone that i am attracted to them like a moth to a light, but that the light is useless...

What is a bare bulb outdoors to a Moth that it brings them to dance and flit?  The bulb is useless and unheeding... the bulb gives light and nothing more...

It provides no nourishment.  And exposes the moth to predators...

The light will never need or want the Moth...

It's a trap, the Light is DEATH...

And yet the moth must come and dance...

Why?  forever am i bound to seek that which will trap my soul and pain me...

Winter Reflections

Not really a Rant:

Those of you who know me, have heard me speak of my pet coyote (more correctly a coy/dog, coyote/pitbull).  She's now 12 1/2 yrs. old and age is catching up with her fast.

This morning i took her out into the back yard to let her get her morning excercise and it as the first morning with any real snow of this season.  Watching her try to romp and search for the familiar scent was bittersweet.

The morning of the first snow has always been special.  Having been born in July, yup a Cancer coyote, her first snow ever was hilarious.  The bunny trails she loved to run were covered and watching her react was hilarious.   There were the years with my kids, both when we were a family and the years after.  Now it's just me and the coyote.   It makes me wonder about the speed at which time moves, i hardly feel old inside, but in reality old injuries have crept up and become arthritis and i move slow these days.  The coyote, barely 1/4 my age, cursed with the shorter lifespan of her kind, still looking for bunnies, wondering, i'm sure, where my kids have gone.  Why be cute if i'm her only audience?

So much beauty, so much pain... blessing and curse...

Given the current debate i the U.S. over health care coverage, the word Socialism is getting tossed around like beach ball at a lakeside picnic.  Unfortunatly, most of the people tossing the word have no more idea of what that word means than the average picnicer.  At best, most folks simply don't know the difference and misuse the word, at worst the word is being thrown as a red herring to scare the HELL out of people.

Capitalism: the means of production, (industry, business and such) is controlled by the owners, (those who have POWERFUL CAPITAL) Government can be an elected republic... but need not be.

Socialism: the means of production is controlled by the WORKERS not necessarily the government.  That is, that which produces the economy is controlled, possibly owned, by those that work there.   If the government controlled by the workers as well is a communism.

What the president is suggesting in the change of health care system, is making health care coverage a right and responsibility.  Will it cost more? Not really.  We already pay for those who have no health care whether by choice or circumstance.  Health insurance companies already build into your costs a fee to help pay for those who use services and have no means to pay, they have to, hospitals require participants to kick in.  Hospitals and providers also inflate their costs to you to pay for these folks as well.  Lastly, Medicaid is funded by tax dollars.   Therefore, we who have coverage are already getting billed 3 times for those without coverage.  Wouldn't getting billed 1 time be better?

A simple example of the why this is important: Consider a car accident.  Imagine if the driver who hit you had NO coverage.  Imagine if neither of you had coverage.  The plan makes sense because everyone is then covered.

For those who still say socialism, a true socialist system would work thusly. (and may be a better system yet)   All the workers at a particular place would collctively vote whether or not to join with other workers at the same or similar workers. Let's say McDonalds.  Each Mcdonald's workers would decide whether to join with other McDonalds or go at it alone.  Then that group, be it a single McDonald's or multiple McDonalds, would then go out and negotiate its insuarance coverage.  In this system EVERY working person would have coverage.  The government would then be responsible to cover non-working people.   It's actually a simple system.

For those who want to compare this to European systems, no comparison.   Remember this, we are the only democracy with no representation of labor in the government.   The department of Labor does not represent labor.  In every other democracy, the minister of LABOR is elected by workers to represent the needs of workers.   It is through this post that most of the health care rules and monies are generated.

I know, it's long, but food for thought

Fuicides...

Yesterday I wrote a very short entry about a MuMM which disturbed me, only one person read it, who cares.  I'm glad barely anyone read it as i tried to very delicately tip-toe around what i saw as reprehensible behavior so as to not draw anymore ire and bashing.  Last night i was so angry at myself i was disgusted.  So here's ny real feelings and if anyone's mad, PFFFFFTTTTT!!!

How did we, myself included, becaome so cold and callous.  Sure, whoever was 'saying goodbye' in this MuMM was looking for attention.  Obviously they were looking for some positive attention!!!!! They were looking for a friend, a good reason to stick around.  They wanted, and others before them have wanted, a little of the 'genuine' warmth some of us claim to dole out and they didn't even get any cold comfort.  They held out their hand and we bit it!

I frequently get accused of forgetting there are real people on the other end of these machines.  The folks, sharks, who tore that person to shreds until they actually fuicided during their MuMM never forgot there was a person at the other end of that machine, infact they seemed to revel in it!  I know i'm not one of the 'cool kids' on this site, so please feel free to give me the 'as if' shrug.  I have been lambasted for sticking up for liars, having my words and ideas twisted so i can be people's whipping posts... if everyone who knows me deletes me so be it.  I will never abanndon anyone who's looking for a genuine friend.  I will remain truthful and acerbic but not cruel.

To close let me say this about attention seeking.  How many of us don't seek attention in some way.  We buy VIPs, and then go and color our names.  We use various primaries to make ourselves look better, the reds are the reds... we MuMM, we blog, we ask for bling, we are mildly suggestive and a million other things, FOR GODDAMNED ATTENTION!!!!!! So the next time someone seems a little desperate, like they really want to be in some crowd.  Maybe, just maybe, bring them in.  Give them a circle to run in.
