365 Days of Walking the Red Road: All things in the world are two. In our minds, we are two, good and evil. With our eyes we see two things, things that are fair and things that are ugly... We have the right hand that strikesand makes for evil, and we have the left hand full of kindness, near the heart. One foot may lead us to an evil way, the other foot may lead us to a good. So are all things two, all two. --Letakots-Lesa Pawnee *The Native American Path to leading A Spiritual Life every day* --------------------------------------------------------------------------------On This Date in Native American History: 1675: Today, John Sassamon will be found under the ice of Assawompsett Pond, 15 miles from the Plymouth. A Christian Indian, and educated at Harvard, Sassamon had recently left living with the whites to become Philip's aide. He would the leave Philip, return to the colony as a preacher for the local Indians. He would tell the colony of Philip's plans to attack, but he would not be believed. After his body was found, witnesses would testify in court that three Wampanoags murdered Sassamon. Some time later, one of the three would confess on the gallows, after his rope broke while being hanged. He would be hanged anyway. This episode, was the spark Philip needed for his war. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A Cherokee Feast of Day by Joyce Sequichie Hifler An individual responsibility is to set the course of the day, a year - a lifetime. Words and thoughts bring us to some crucial point of strength or else utter weakness. Decide now to forgive. It does not mean reconciling with an enemy - but it does mean freedom. Decide to love - others, but yourself in particular. Wait until the flames settle before you take on the problem. Even tempers and orderly minds can handle heat better. Walk softly, for others are on the same road and they look for a gentle word, less criticism and full observance of the Spirit. ~ We, the people composing the Eastern and Western Cherokee Nation.... by virtue of our original and inalienable rights, do hereby solemnly and mutually agree.... to one body politic.... the Cherokee Nation. ~ SEQUOYAH - CHEROKEE LEADER -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elder's Meditation of the Day - January 29 "We grieve more because we have been disconnected from our earth, our first Mother, our spiritual Mother." --Larry P. Aitken, CHIPPEWA Where does all life come from? The Earth. Where does everything return to? The Earth. Where do values come them? The Earth. Many people are lost because they don't know the importance of connection to the Earth. They connect to money, to relationships, to success, to goals. When we are disconnected from the Earth, we have feelings of being sad or lost. When we are connected to the Earth, we feel warm and secure. Great Spirit, help me to stay connected to the Mother Earth. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning Prayer: O Pachacamac! Thou who has existed from the beginning, Thou who shall exist until the end, powerful but merciful, Who didst create man by saying, "Let man be," Who defends us from evil, and preserves our life and our health, art Thou in the sky or upon the earth? In the clouds or in the deeps? Hear the voice of him who implores Thee, and grant him his petitions. Give us life everlasting, preserve us, and accept this our sacrifice. Aho , Amen , e-men . For most of us that means we work and work and work, a somewhat rigid path from which there seems little reprieve. Weariness has its ways of making us feel we are set on a track that goes around and around like a toy train. But even a toy is expected to change somewhere. What do we expect? Do we expect something good to happen or something less than good? Now, is the time to change our expectations. Sometimes it means we have to reach out and take hold of a dream and as Jacob said to the angel that wrestled with him, "I will not let you go until you bless me." *<<<=-=>>>*<<<=-=>>>*<<<=-=>>>*<<<=-=>>>* January 28 - Daily Feast Volume II Losing is not always what it seems, and how we react makes the difference. We may be disappointed, feel let down - and maybe a little betrayed - but we haven't lost until we quit. What is done is done. We have cried and we have hurt - but this will show the stuff we are made of and how nothing can keep us down. How we think, what we say, and where we put our faith will set our new course and keep us on it. ~ Our new home will be beyond a great river on the way to the setting sun... Our wigwams on another land where we hope the Great Spirit will smile. ~ KEOKUK - SAUK LEADER, 1832 "A Cherokee Feast of Days, Volume II" by Joyce Sequichie Hifler *<<<=-=>>>*<<<=-=>>>*<<<=-=>>>*<<<=-=>>>* Elder's Meditation of the Day - January 28 "We call it the `sacred' red road because it is the road that will lead us to living the good life, an honest and healthy life." --Larry P. Aitken, CHIPPEWA The Red Road is the path we walk on when we want a direct relationship with the Great Spirit. This requires sacrifice. This requires us to have our beliefs tested. To walk this path is really an honor. The returns for doing so are exciting, not only for ourselves but for the effect that will be felt for three generations. This means your children will see the benefits as well as your grandchildren. Do I want to walk this sacred road? Great Spirit, guide myself and my family on the Red Road. *<<<=-=>>>*<<<=-=>>>*<<<=-=>>>*<<<=-=>>>* THINK ON THESE THINGS By Joyce Sequichie Hifler Three things we can do without - jealousy, pride, and a sense of competition that makes us cruel. French writer, La Rochefoucauld, said that jealousy is more a self-love than a love for another. But more than that, it is a weak ego afraid that someone else is getting ahead. We have no business being where we feel we cannot hold our own. Pride, it is said, goes before a fall. Pride is so transparent and without scruples. We can say we are proud of someone or something without meaning anything wrong -- but pride that steals our common sense steals our peace. Competition is almost as bad because it contains in subtle ways jealousy and pride. *<<<=-=>>>*<<<=-=>>>*<<<=-=>>>*<<<=-=>>>* God's Minute MAY GOD BE GRACIOUS TO US AND BLESS US AND MAKE HIS FACE SHINE UPON US. ( PSALM 67:1 * NIV ) Dear Member's, In this busy World of ours we often forget to stop and count all of our blessings. If we are not careful we will even take them for granted! So why not stop and count your blessings today, for when you count them, you will find that there are many indeed! Also you will find that counting your blessings is a great way to begin each day as well. Now the above verse reminds me of a poem that I very much enjoy. It was written by one of my favorite Christian Poet's. So today I would like to share that poem with you, and it is my hope that you will enjoy it as well! Your Blessings Are So Many, Lord! Your blessings are so many, Lord, To count them one by one Would take much longer than a day That has just now begun! You fill each day with miracles From dawn to setting sun. Each night You hear a million prayers When day's work is done. You keep this old world spinning As seasons come and go, And each one is a masterpiece That stets our hearts aglow. You fill the earth with beauty, Lord, With flowers, shrubs and trees, And we marvel at Your rainbows And butterflies and bees. Your words still give us comfort For Your promises are true. Your blessings are so many, Lord, In everything we do! Have a Wonderful Monday Member's, and may the Peace of God be with you! Aho , Amen , emen . God's Minute HIS DIVINE POWER HAS GIVEN TO US ALL THINGS THAT PERTAIN TO LIFE AND GODLINESS, THROUGH THE KNOWLEDGE OF HIM WHO CALLED US BY GLORY AND VIRTUE. ( 2 PETER 1:3 *NKJV ) Dear Member's, There are times in this life when one of these 9 statements apply to each of us. So let them now be reminders that Minister to us..... "Moments in Life" 1. There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them for real! So cherish them while they are with you. 2. When the door of happiness closes, another opens; but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one, which has been opened for us. 3. Don't go for looks; they can deceive. Don't go for wealth; even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile, because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright. Find the one that makes your heart smile. 4. Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do. 5. May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy. 6. The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. 7. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches. 8. When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. So live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying. 9. Don't count the years-count the memories...........Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take; but by the moments that take our breath away! Aho , Amen , e-men . ____________________________________ With My Love & Prayers, your servant , Pastor cougarmoon
