Crushed by overwhelming waves I feel like crying Crashing on the rock strewn shore I settle for sighing Almost constantly I release that little puff of air Hoping, wishing, praying that some of my pain Will slip between my lips and disappear within the atmosphere And perhaps for a moment or two it works At least sighing is an action I can take But the whole depressing mess still looms within A loneliness, a frustration, a weariness that I can’t shake When will this gloom-filled zone give way To a thing I have heard of from foreign lands, called day Why can’t it just go away These things that tear and pinch and claw at me These things that strive to overcome my last bit of confidence I look without seeing Laugh without smiling I feel only numbness Which is no feeling at all
