This has been the craziest year I have ever had.
On may 19th I was hurt at work. Went to the hospital on may 23rd. because of a head ache that just wouldn't go away. this was trip number 1 for that day. They couldn't find anything wrong so they gave me a couple of shots and sent me home. About 2 hours later the headache was back so I went back. This time they decided to run some more tests. ct scans turned up nothing, Then it was a spinal tap. Let me tell you that was fun. lol. Well they found blood in the spinal fluid. For those that don't know it isn't supposed to be there. I was admitted to the icu for the next 3 days and then to a normal room where they ran even more invasive tests. after four days they hadn't found out what was causeing the blood so the dr. ordered a mri. Turns out there were three tumors in my spinal cord that I didn't know about. Well a week later I went in for the 1st of 2 surgeries. the first one went ok I was a little scared I will admit. this first one they wanted to opperate on was up just below my neck whish means if he had messed up I could have been paralyzized from the neck down. It went good after nine hours I woke up in recovery and the first thing I did was make sure I could move everything. I spent a week in the hospital after that. then I went home for a week and waited for my next surgery whish was a week later. This was the one they thaught would be the easiest one it was at the base of my spinal cord. another nine hours under the knife. then another three days flat on my back in icu with a drain plug in. This one had ruptured and noone knew it. When I woke up and went to the flore I couldn't move my right leg with out help. I spent the next 5 weeks in the rehab word of the hospital learning to walk all over again. My first physical therapist told me I wouldn't be walking at all in anything less then a years time. which just gave me the drive to prove her wrong. when I went home from the hospital to do out patient therapy I walked off the floor of that hospital. then spent the next month in and out of a wheelchair. I parked that thing for the last time in the first part of sept. and started using a walker. that was parked and moved into a quad cane in about three weeks. am down to using a normal cane now only when I go out and there is ice or snow on the ground just to be on the safe side.
Now for the crazy part. I would never wish this on anybody ever but at the same time I would not give up this experience for anything in the world. It has given me a new respect for people who have to overcome a handicap. I am greatful that God has given me a second chance at normal life and plan to spend every minute of it doing what I can to help others. As well as coaching baseball for my son again this spring. thatis the only thing he was afraid of "his daddy not coaching baseball anymore" well God has made it possible for me to do it so watch out here we come lol.
I have found out who my core group of friends and loved ones are through all of this and to each and everyone of you I owe you a debt I could never begin to repay. Thank you for all you have done for me. my God bless everyone of you.
