PORTLAND, Ore. Justin Smith Womens Jersey . -- A favourable bounce and a timely goal have put the Edmonton Oil Kings back in the thick of the Western Hockey League final. Rhett Rachinski scored his second goal of the game 9:07 into overtime Tuesday to lift the Oil Kings to a 4-3 victory over the Portland Winterhawks in Game 4. The series is even at two games apiece, with Game 5 coming Thursday in Edmonton. The game-winner came after Portlands Oliver Gabriel failed to corral a bouncing puck. Rachinski picked the loose puck off the side boards and fired a sharp-angle shot through a screen and past Portland goaltender Mac Carruth. "I came off the wall and saw an opportunity to shoot," Rachinski said of the first overtime playoff goal in the five-year history of the Oil Kings. "Once I saw the reaction from the guys, it was a pretty special feeling." Portland coach Mike Johnston tried to deflect blame away from Gabriel on the play. "The ice was awful tonight," said Johnston, referring to a surface that had to be redone Tuesday after the Rose Garden hosted a concert Monday night. "It came bouncing to Gabriel and he tried to settle it down but he couldnt." Sven Bartschi scored twice for the Winterhawks, with Marcel Noebels providing the other goal for Portland. Tyler Maxwell and Stephane Legault also scored for the Oil Kings. "I thought our guys gave a gutsy effort from the get-go," said Oil Kings coach Derek Laxdal, whose team played without suspended forward Henrik Samuelsson. "It was a heavyweight fight tonight, and I dont expect anything less Thursday night." Edmonton carried much of the play through the first two periods and took a 3-1 lead into the second intermission. The third period belonged to the Winterhawks -- and to Bartschi. The Calgary Flames prospect scored two goals in the first half of the period to tie the game. The second came with 10:54 left in regulation, and Portland pressed for a game-winner but couldnt solve Oil Kings goaltender Laurent Brossoit down the stretch. "We controlled the tempo in the third period, and even in overtime we carried the momentum in terms of puck possession," Johnston said. Portland drew first blood when Troy Rutkowski found Noebels on a long stretch pass for a breakaway. Noebels beat Brossoit high to the glove side 1:21 into the game for an early 1-0 lead. The Winterhawks couldnt build on the early momentum, and the Oil Kings slowly took control of the period, finally equalizing on Rachinskis goal with 4:10 left in the first. The Oil Kings added to the lead in the second period, as Maxwell beat Carruths outstretched leg to the post on a wraparound at 8:17. In the final minute of the period, Legault pounced on a blocked shot and fired a wrist shot into the top corner to make it 3-1. Brossoit made 39 saves to earn the win, while Carruth stopped 38 shots. Each team went 0-for-2 on the power play. The teams are sharing the same charter plane for the remainder of the series, and its the Oil Kings who were looking forward to the late-night journey. "Normally we talk about a happy bus, but tonight its a happy plane," Brossoit said. "Its going to be the most enjoyable plane ride Ive ever experienced." Portlands Taylor Peters downplayed the misery of the flight for his club. "I dont think any bad blood is going to carry over from the ice," Peters said.
