This was posted on another group site but it speaks to and for me.
Someone, a christian, had the cajones to state that non-christians do not have a right to celebrate Christmas. WTF?
We, (non-christians) have no desire to "take away" your, (christians) Christmas. Why should the way WE celebrate at MY house have any effect on how YOU celebrate at YOUR house?
NO ONE can "take Christ out of Christmas" if he is in your heart and mind. And if that is what this holiday season is about for you - then I wish you and yours a Happy Christmas! Can't you show us the same respect?
Some christians feel "someone" is trying to "take" their holiday. Pagans assert that the Christians "stole" it from them in the first place. The atheists don't want any religion shoved in their faces.
It all gives me a headache frankly.
I am "allowed" to celebrate just about any damn way I see fit. So are you. What a great country we live in.
"Christmas" is NOT a finite thing. I am not taking away a piece of your pie when I celebrate the holidays in a different way! In fact, I think the opposite is true. A wise man said: "Shared pain is lessened; shared joy, increasedthus do we refute entropy."
And there it is. If you share another's joy, you increase joy in the world. If you have empathy for another's pain, you can help ease that pain away.
So, instead of bickering because someone celebrates a different holiday than you do, I suggest that you be happy for them. Share their joy. Spread it around. You just might find that you get some back!
If someone gives you the choice of spreading compassion or spreading intolerance, which would you choose? It's the choice we all make every day in how we treat our fellow man - or, woman, as the case may be.
A. Share the joy of the season? B. Be bitter and spread intolerance?
