What are you waiting for?

More and more often, we are surrounded by news about how our environment is being affected by pollution, chemicals, etc. For many years I wondered what the effects were when we lovely women would either buy hair dye and apply it at home or go to the salon and have it done there. There are SO MANY chemicals in hair dye. Hair dye absorbs into the skin of your scalp. I see children use permanent hair dye and that is SO WRONG! How do these chemicals affect our water when it gets washed down the drain? How much is it filtered out after it goes through the processing plant? Have there been studies made about its toxicity? I usually have my hair cropped short and since I started wearing braces about a year ago I've been growing it out. I used to colour it whenever an inch or so would grow out, but I've been leaving it to grow for a longer period of time for a few reasons. One, it's a lot messier to apply at home and my hubby gets very nervous about the stuff staining anything. Second, I would then need to go to the salon and it can cost anywhere from $45 dollars CDN to $100 depending on where you go. It's expensive! $45.00 can pay my cell phone bill for the month. I could stash that away in my retirement fund! Trouble is, I'm getting salt-and-pepper gray coming in more and more. I'm 39 years old and started getting grays in my mid 20's. If it weren't for society judging women's beauty by placing it in certain categories - being thin, having shiny luxurious, young looking hair, perfect complections..etc, more of us beautiful women can skip all the hair dye and extensive makeup. Our perception is..women look old with gray and men look distinguished. They do, actually..I love a man with salt-and-pepper, streaks of silver or a full head of beautiful silver hair. I've seen GORGEOUS women with incredible silver manes. Why not save the environment, make a statement and go natural? There is always the alternative - henna dyes. But have you ever tried applying that goop? I would need someone else to do it and I haven't found a salon yet that would provide that service no matter what I'd offer to pay them. I wear a lot less makeup than I did in my 20's. I've always dressed in clothes that are not particularily 'fad-dy' and can look good and last for many years. (I do tend to like the casual peasant look with the flowing sleeves, and long skirts when I'm feeling casual and witchy) But I love just wearing a good pair of jeans and a T, or sweater, whatever. I think beauty ultimately comes from within. What do you think? Ladies? Gents? Men..do you really CARE if a women's hair is salt-and-pepper? Do you think it's actually sexy? Or do you think it makes a woman look older? How do you women feel about it? Bright Blessings.
