Kevin Durant did most of the heavy lifting for the United States and LeBron James put the finishing touches on a 107-100 win over Spain in the gold-medal game of the mens basketball tournament at the London 2012 Olympic Games. The Spaniards gave the Americans a fight they had not run into in London right from the opening whistle. Early in the game, it was all Juan-Carlos Navarro for Spain, as the streaky gunner went off for 14 points over the opening 10 minutes. Despite Navarros impressive start, the Americans were even hotter, shooting 7-of-10 from long range to build an early 35-27 lead. Spain opened the second quarter with a 7-0 run to even the score before James stopped the run with a monstrous dunk. The Americans calling card all tournament has been their ability to hit the three-point shot and they cooled off in the second quarter, going 1-of-8, to allow Spain to stay in the game. At the half, the Americans lead was just a single point. The Spaniards turned their attention to their inside advantage in the third quarter, giving plenty of touches to Pau Gasol and Serge Ibaka . Gasol scored Spains first 13 points on his way to a 15-point quarter. But despite the impressive run by the Los Angeles Lakers centre, Durant and Kobe Bryant were also strong and the Americans hung onto their one-point lead on the cusp of the final quarter. Durant scored 30 points to finish as the highest-American scorer at an Olympics, after totaling 156 points over the course of the London Games. "We have a lot of NBA champs on this team," Durant said. "I just tried to hit some shots in the second half."  While Durant and Bryant carried the load for the Americans for three quarters, the game became the LeBron James Show in the fourth quarter. With the Americans holding a narrow lead with three minutes to play and James in foul trouble, he went on a tear, with a massive dunk and a three-pointer to create a nine-point gap between the two sides. Spain was unable to recover. "I just wanted to make an imprint on the game," the Miami Heat star said. "I wasnt going to leave home with those four fouls."  James had 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists to help the American cause as capped off a terrific year. He became the second player behind Michael Jordan to to win the NBA title, regular-season MVP, NBA Finals MVP and Olympic gold in the same year. Bryant would finish with 17 points in his last Olympic Games. "This it for me. I feel very fortunate to go to the Olympics twice and it give a go," Bryant said. "I feel very lucky. It was nice to come here in the twilight of my career." Gasol would finish with 24 for Spain and Navarro finished with 21 as they would finish with the silver for the second consecutive Olympic Games. "Its a bittersweet feeling.Obviously, theres great pride and satisfaction from winning an Olympic medal, but we were close again against this team of excellent players," Gasol said. "You have to have pretty much a perfect game to be able to beat them. Im proud of our spirit and how close we were." Cheap NHL Jerseys . Jankowski was the most accomplished scorer among the draft-eligible players -- he had 53 goals and 94 points at Quebecs Stanstead College last season -- but, in part because he is only 17, he was widely projected as a second-round pick. In a Q&A with the New York Times Davis said he wants to win NBA Rookie of the Year, make the All-Defensive first team and be the Defensive Player of the Year. TORONTO -- The NHL Players Association is dreaming big. Faced with an initial proposal in collective bargaining that held absolutely no appeal, NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr is proceeding as though it never happened. Rather than quibbling over the fine points of the NHLs offer, the union has chosen to reimagine the leagues economic system in a proposal it will deliver on Tuesday. "What we expect to do tomorrow is to put forth an alternative view as to what we should do next," Fehr said Monday. "Thats the best way I can put it." Its a bold move with a Sept. 15 deadline looming for a lockout. The initial offer from the NHL called for a lowering of the players share in revenue and introduced new contract restrictions, among other things. There wasnt one aspect of it that appealed to the union, with one source saying the NHLPA felt it was designed to "anger and provoke" rather than kickstart meaningful discussions. Despite that, the union thoroughly examined it over the last month before deciding there was no true counter-proposal to be made. Fehr will instead offer up a "different kind of an approach" -- one that no doubt includes expanded revenue sharing and more flexibility than is currently allowed under the leagues rigid salary cap system. "Its how the players see the world," said Fehr. But what about the owners? Judging by the initial proposal, the biggest change theyre after is reducing the amount of money spent on players. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman acknowledged as much last week but has otherwise kept his cards pretty close to the vest. Negotiations have been underway for seven weeks, but he still isnt sure exactly what the union has in mind. "Im interested, very interested," Bettman said of the forthcoming proposal.dddddddddddd "Well have to wait and see. Im not going to try and speculate as to what theyre going to present tomorrow. I have no idea." Time is beginning to run short with the current deal set to expire on Sept. 15. Bettman added even more urgency to the talks when he revealed last week that the players will be locked out if that date passes without a new agreement. It was a comment that resonated strongly with the players -- many of whom took to Twitter to voice their displeasure with it. Fehr took notice as well. "The tone (of negotiations), in a sense, I suppose is a little different given that backdrop and the starkness from which it was delivered," he said. The players will be looking to make a splash with their proposal on Tuesday. As many as 25 union members are expected to be in attendance for the session -- including superstar Alex Ovechkin -- and key details are slated to be released publicly. During Fehrs time with baseballs players union, he fought vehemently against a salary cap and its believed hes strongly in favour of lessening the impact of the one the NHL instituted after losing the entire 2004-05 season to a lockout. One way to do that is to introduce a luxury tax for teams that spend above a specific threshold. Its unclear if the NHLPA might be able to interest owners in that kind of system. Asked specifically about how he felt about a luxury tax on Monday, Bettman declined comment by saying he wont negotiate publicly. Negotiations are about to pick up pace. Despite the fact the sides have been talking throughout the summer, they finally seem ready to get down to work. "All things in this world at this stage of this negotiation are possible," said Fehr.
