I got a note today that one of my cousins is partaking in the Breast Cancer walk in October. Her mother had it many, many years ago and was a survivor for many years as well. My aunt, who was quite large, would say she just had some "stuffing" removed. LOL As I continued reading her note, I got sick to my stomach. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in February and had a partial mastectomy. She's only a few years older than me. So far things look good for her and she's doing the walk to try and make a difference.
I find myself chuckling a bit because I had requested from my doctor a referral to have a mammogram done but I haven't gone in for it yet. If you've never had one, it truly is an experience. Literally having your boob flattened to a pancake (and I'm quite chesty so you can imagine how much squishing needs to be done) is a painful and for me anyway, a rather embarrassing thing. However, thinking of the alternative that my grandmother and cousin went through, well, let's just say I'll be getting off my lazy ass.
If you haven't been tested or are due, don't put it off. You never know. Waiting until tomorrow could be too late.
