Well I had to go on SSI quite a few years ago due to fibromalgia and a few other health complications which cut me down to $594 a month. Thankfully or so I thought I had HUD, they help you out with rent when your low income. Well I stayed somewhere for 9yrs, the landlord was so Happy I was on HUD cause it was a check sent to him the 1st of every month and then the rest by me. By the end of the 9yrs. he didn't want to deal with HUD anymore, why? because they wanted him to keep the place up and safe for my children and me, so HUD gave me 60 days to find a place, which was not an easy task because they only allow a lower amount than most of the apartments around here. Well I thought I got lucky and found a place off a so called good friend, little did I know the place was up for foreclosure. In the mean time I payed my security, fixed the place up so it would pass HUD even though that wasn't my job and signed a years lease with the owner and HUD. Well Last August I had to get out. The place had been sold and the new owner was kicking everyone out so he could gut the place. I couldn't find a place that would go by HUD's amount or guidelines so my kids went their seperate ways and found places to live, my mom took me in and I pay her room and board. Well SSI is fine with me being here and she has HUD also due too low income seeing she just got done battling lung cancer and may now have brain cancer, but they were fine with it also. This is a 2 bedroom apt. and their is only my mother, my stepfather and myself. Well my mom called the landlord whom I have never met and she said I could not live here, even though otherwise I would be homeless and my mother had a drs statement saying someone should be with her 24/7. Well we found out today that if I don't get out the landlord can legally evict me through the courts and I have no place to go and besides have had my cats for 10 yrs. My mother is waiting for a call back from her lawyer but can you believe this shit, they would be saving money, which is usually the bottom line and wouldn't have to pay someone to stay with mom and I wouldn't be homeless and it wouldn't cost the landlord anymore and we even offerred her $100 more a month. If you told me 5 years ago that I could end up where I am now I would have told you, you were full of it. I'm hoping we get a chance to straighen this out but doesn't look hopeful and hopefully I get a chance to say goodbye to all my wonderful friends on here before I have to go. Just had to let this off my chest and let other people know how bad NY state can be.
