Tobacco is great a wonderful product, and a big unhealthy part of my life. i have quit smoking aproxximatly 30 times or so in the last year.
remember when it was cool to smoke and chew tobacco. going to the gas staion with 4 friends and 3 dollars between you. to get a pack of ciggarettes and $1.53 worth of gas? those were the days no tax on smokes no lawsuits had jacked the prices to an astronomical rate. Dont get me wrong there are smokes at the PX that are 1.75 a pack they are great but this was for the name brands that are $4 to alomost $6 back home at some places.
one particular day sticks out in my mind i have no idea why i remember this 25 minute snippet of an uneventful day from so many years ago, is it just one of those lame memories i keep in my head like a usless trivia question? Or was it a life changing event? not a major one but one of the things that gives us some unique quirk that kinda helps to shape who we are and where we will go....but anyways me and my friend brayden went to the BP next to albertsons to do just that we had music playin loud in his car he had just got and we were sitting around being bored and he said hey lets go to the store i gotta get gas, im like thinking why not get it while you are out man why make a special trip? i am cheap kinda. but i was like alright lets roll. i had a dollar and figured hey i will get a pack of gum.
we drove on down there we took oregon st to tualtin sherwood road all the way to the shopping center that was still brand new. we pulled in to the center island he rolled his window down and said hey dude let me get a dollar twenty five of premiun man. (in oregon there are attendants that pump yer gas for ya cuz its illegal to pump your own). thats it, keep in mind gas was like about $.1.19 or so then we went in the store part and got what we needed i got some doublemint he got a pack of Kamel Reds one of the best smokes invented. jumped back in the ride fired em up and peeled off and went back to his house via sherwood blvd. made the loop we called it.
this wasnt the first time i ever smoked or chewed infact i wasnt addicted to it at all. i just did it when ever cuz it was fun and well we were barely 18 so it was still exciting to not have to get some ones older bro to buy em.
i didnt really start smoking till i was in iraq i smoked real heavy 2 or 3 packs a day GROSS i know i ve cut way back, im down to a pack every few days though and quit a few times and startred again its really tuff i usually do good till the weekdays haha
wow this is like the first time i ever had a brain fart im not to sure where im going with this story. its just a memory i have i guess, kinda like a fond one i spose i dont have a clue what we were doing before or after the trip. thas done faded away like all the rest of the days.
maybe it is because this meaningless day back in summer 98 has stuck in my head for no other reason then so i could write about it in a blog that not to many people will read and the ones who do will soon forget it in a few days or weeks from now, it will fade into a day that had no significant meaning no real high or low memorable point, just a plain day. But maybe some one will read this dumb story of me burnin a Kamel red in a nissan sentra broke as hell in sherwood oregon just enjoying life for what it was forgetting every problem for those 4 and a half minutes of flavor country and just laughing about somthing i cant remeber anymore....and they will come away from it and realize that the littlest things in life that we choose to remember, or not are some of the best moments we may ever experiance and for that i say god bless the tobacco industry for giving me that brief lasting memory that i hope i never forget and take to my grave with me.one of my best friends in the world and i poisened our bodies with tabaco and it was great.
