On January 12, 2007, I posted a blog entry called
"Bulletin Abuse". It was a standard Scott-rant about how annoyed I am at useless bulletins.
Lately, and sadly, it hasn't improved, and the users who repost have the nerve to be offended when you call them on it.
The latest cross-section of posted idiocy, other than my blogs, in some people's opinions, includes (the subjects have been slightly modified to protect the guilty):
- "Downrater!"
- "If We Had Sex..."
- "Someone on your list wants to bang you - repost to find out who"
- "Generic Child Abuse Post" (e.g. "Daddy, it hurts")
- "Fake ass friends"
- "Block this pervert" or "Don't add this guy to your list"
- "Booty-call/Husband/Wife/Boyfriend/Girlfriend application"
- "'Generic Dying Kid B' needs your prayers"
- "This profile is fake"
Naturally, the posters include the obligatory statement "repost or accept some negative consequence." These consequences include, but aren't limited to: a bad future sex life, unpopularity among the opposite gender, permanent removal from the poster's friends list, shrinking of the genitals, anal leakage, financial ruin, and death.
Maybe there's some truth to it. I was recently permanently removed without warning from some skank wh--... erm... lady's friend's list and blocked because I left a comment on her "Fake Ass Friends" posting (the one that checks to see if you're paying attention; if you repost, obviously you are). The comment was,
"Can we see this topic one less fucking time, please?" Shortly afterwards, my friends list number decreased by one, and I no longer could look at her profile. Instead of feeling bad about it, however, I had my first good laugh in a long while. I'm a huge fan of irony. "Fake ass friends" indeed. Not like I'm missing anything. She only added me as a stat builder anyway. I don't even know her name.
There is no sense imploring the sheep that come here to be responsible about what they spread via bulletin. They'll continue to post. And, even though we're under no obligation to, we will continue to read them. What we do with the information is, ultimately, up to us. There's a "remove friend" link in each bulletin for a reason (in one of my recent bulletins, 4 people selected that link. They won't be missed).
It's the internet. CT is the epitome of what
not to take seriously. These include bulletins, blogs... even people.
