It's time for a change. We've pledged to protect and serve our communities. The rise in violent crime in Nashville, Davidson County among the youth/young adult population has increase the need for a more responsible response from those who wish to bring about a change in the lives of our children as well as the community. The Peace Makers are an organization of individuals who have been involved in crime, drugs and the criminal justice system. We are men and women who believe that the culture of violence and sexism that is perpetuated in the music that our youth/young adults listen to play a major role in how these youth think and behave.
The violence in this city has touched each one of us personally. We've all lost someone we care about. And if we are compassionate Human Beings we are sad anytime someone is lost in the streets for nothing more than he/she wore the wrong color or said the wrong word to someone else.
With the introduction and release of a rap CD The Peace Makers are changing the minds of people who only think that rap music is a negative influence on our youth and culture. The CD entitled 'Let's End the Violence Vol. 1: Enough is Enough is being distributed in high risk areas and at local nightclubs on a weekly basis to encourage our youth to party safely and positively. The CD is being hailed as "the CD that will change your life."
The Peace Maker are determined to change the minds and behavior of our youth. We believe that someone must take a stand and voice the desire of most of our community when we exhort young people to END THE VIOLENCE!
With weekly outreach efforts in high risk areas, as well as, night clubs and special events The Peace Makers are engaging our youth in places that many won't (or can't) go to. We are encouraging everyone we encounter to make THE PLEDGE of a commitment to not steal, not kill not destroy but to PROTECT and SERVE our communities. The Peace Makers believe that if people are conscious of The Pledge and recognized The Pledge they may be more willing to internalize and implement The Pledge in their lives and lifestyle.
The Peace Makers want (at least) a million members to commit to non-violent resolution to conflict in our communities. We want persons who live and work in low income high risk areas to make The Pledge and encourage others to take The Pledge to bring about change in our community (period) and stop the senseless violence in our areas. We understand that we can not do this work alone. We need your support. BECOME A PEACE MAKER. PEACE!!!
