That's silly fancy language. We're human. And we have spirits. The two are connected, but just because our spirits / souls / whatever are near-perfect doesn't erase our humanity, which is quite imperfect. We get sick, in the body and mind. (Some say in the soul... but, at worst, it's either a mind-sickness or a refusal to listen to our personal spirit.)
The Craft (and other practices, such as Reiki) can help ameliorate some of that... but it's not just, as Severus Snape would put it, "silly wand waving." First you need to learn how to access the power of Witchcraft (some access it innately, but often in a way that doesn't last too long), and then build it up - just like any other endeavor (such as how to get the Fubar crown :) .)
The Apple meditation I mentioned in the first post of this blog is a fairly fast introduction for noticeable results - or at least it worked for me. YMMV.
I have been talking with numerous friends on here about Witchcraft, and about basic information on the practice of the Craft. Unfortunately I do not have the time nor the energy at the moment to take on formal students.
So, instead, I have three recommended books, one recommended recording, and a recommendation about immersion into a Witchcraft sacred space, as well as some notes about other resources.
Books/recordings:
There are many books out there from authors I know which either I haven't gotten around to reading yet, or are at a much more advanced level. T. Thorn Coyle is an excellent teacher, but her books, IMO, are not for the basic beginner. Another teacher I am familiar with is Laura Tempest Zakroff, but as I have not yet completed reading her Weave the Liminal: Living Modern Traditional Witchcraft, I can't as yet recommend it as a basic text (because I don't know if I'd classify it as such :D .)
For those interested in academic history and the study of Witchcraft as a movement, I recommend Drawing Down the Moon: Witches, Druids, Goddess-Worshippers, and Other Pagans in America, by the late Margot Adler. This is available on Amazon and should be available in or through most book stores.
Finally... and note the disclaimer above about Reclaiming.. if you have the resources to attend one, I suggest attending a Reclaiming WitchCamp. There are several week-long (or at least 4 day long) workshops at these camps, and usually one of the workshops (called "paths") at these camps is a beginner's path. This is The Spiral Dance come to life in an immersion of sacred space. For a listing and schedule, see http://witchcamp.org/index.php/wcamp-header/camp-schedule . Although many of the camps are in the US, there are also camps in Australia, Canada, the UK, Germany, and Spain.
