(How To) Content Control

(How To) Displaying Content

This information is not a secret.

This information is not late breaking news.

The information given below is arguably Fubar.com's most discsussed topic.

Content Displayed On Fubar
It is very well known that at some point you've gotten that message in your inbox... the nasty letter from Fubar Shop informing you that something on your profile (whether it be a picture, MuMM, Blog, etc.) has been flagged as containing adult content (commonly referred to as Not Safe For Work or NSFW for short). I'm also sure you've looked at that message and said, "Well, I don't see anything that is labeled as offensive" and you have either stormed into the Support Lounge or sent a shout / private message to a Fubar Bouncer and stated, "Please, Explain to me why this "(enter content link or description here)" is labeled as offensive??" or you gave a small rambling stating "How is it fair someone gets to have this displayed while I am being punished? (commonly referred to as "Member Unfairness")
It seems that there is a bigger issue in being that the general membership of fubar and the bouncers that moderate public areas are not on the same page when it comes to the following:
  • SFW - (Safe For Work), NSAP - (Not Safe As a Primary), NSFW - (Not Safe For Work).
This article/blog will serve two purposes:
  • Educate the reader on what bouncers are instructed to look for when determining whether or not the conetent displayed is SFW, NSFWAP or NSFW.
  • Give the reader a general background as well as inform the reader of the processes and why bouncers are instructed to use them.
This article is not intended to be "The Letter of the Law", nor is it to be used to find out how to circumvent the rules.

All final rulings on how NSFW is interpreted belongs to site staff - (Users Leveled 150 and above).
The rules that governed this blog began as of January 01, 2009; (This Blog is Updated as Necessary). The guidelines listed below are what bouncers are expected to follow. Keep in mind that most of this criteria will depend on where the content is located.
Please Note: Pictures in "The Default Album" or set as a "Primary Image" will be moderated with stricter guidelines than ones that are in Regular or Privatized Folders.
Also Note: Even though you place a image in a Privatized Folder, if the image is suppose to be NSFW Please Mark It As Such.

What Is NSFW
Sexually suggestive pictures
  1. Blatant nudity, including exposed genitals, breasts, buttocks
  2. Pictures focusing on just the above, whether covered or not (usually, but not always, there will be no face in the shot)
  3. Depending on the Focus of the shot. Shots of a member's torso with no head
  4. Legs spread wide, regardless of whether or not the member is wearing underwear
  5. Gripping or holding an erogenous zone through one's clothing
  6. Any depiction of a sexual act
  7. Sexual Play Toys

Primary Photo Policy (Added: 11/25/2009) - (Updated: 03/25/2017):
  1. No Bare Chests. (This goes for both males and females)
  2. No lingerie, bras, briefs or boxers (or anything that is worn under the clothes)
    • Please Note: When it pertains to bra's as long as the member is not "Slutty Looking" the images may be left alone.
  3. Nothing deemed sexually suggestive (as listed above or at Site Staff's discretion).
  4. Confederate Flags: With all of the controversy surrounding the Confederate Flag Fubar has decided for now to keep the images off members primaries. The image will not be marked as NSFW but will be listed as Not Safe As A Primary.

Any Confederate Flag that has been marked as NSFW can be reviewed by a Bouncer.

Any primary photo that is found in violation of this policy WILL BE marked as NSFW
(even if they wouldn't normally have been marked NSFW had they NOT been a primary photo).

Repeated offenses will result in account suspension and/or removal of your account
(the same as if you break other rules on the site, repeatedly).

To have your once Primary Image reviewed, please see the section below on how to contact a Fubar Bouncer.

Primary photos that have swear words in them
  1. Essentially, George Carlin's "Seven Dirty Words."are to be looked at. However, words like "hell" & "boobs" show up on prime-time broadcast television and usually won't be moderated. Avoid all the major shock words.

Illegal Drugs/Drug Use:
  1. Drugs or drug use depicted in "The Default Album" or as a"Primary Image" will be moderated. In any folder other than "The Default Album", bouncers will typically leave them alone.

Overly tasteless or violent images
  1. Excessive gore, blood, or dismembered body parts
  2. Anything representing extreme violence
  3. Bodily waste (urine, feces); Persperation / Body Sweat is not considered NSFW.

Any image slandering any ethnic group
  1. You may have images promoting your ethnic group in a positive way ("Full-Blooded Italian," "Kiss me: I'm Irish," etc.). Racist or derogatory images in your album will be moderated.

Legs
  1. Are not allowed to be used as a Primary. They are also not allowed to have any fishnet or skintight pants (Sweatpants are allowed)) or any other type of garment that may be sexual suggestive in nature.

What Is SFW
Weapons Displayed as Primary
  1. This area has been deemed SFW so bouncers will typically leave this area alone. This does not coincide with Anything Listed Above(which will be moderated properly).

Marijuana(Weed):
  1. This has been deemed SFW. Bouncers will typically leave this area alone. This does not coincide with Illegal Drugs/Drug Use(which will be moderated properly).

Tattoos
  1. As long as the image would be considered Safe For Work, and as long as the focus of the image is clearly the tattoo and not the breast it's on, then displaying a tattoo is an exception to the "must have a head in the shot" rule.

Cusswords
  1. As long as it is not in "The Default Album" or set as a "Primary Photo", a picture with a swear word is not necessarily NSFW.

What are the rules About Lounges & Lounge Cams?
So its been a strong debate on what a lounge can and can't do. To clear up some confusion here are some DO's & DON'TS of both Lounge Rooms & Lounge Cams.
Lounge Cam Rules

These are the rules for broadcating on cam within a lounge. These rules are subject to change at any given time

  1. No Children under the age of 18
     - This does include infants & newborns.
  2. No Pornographic Material
     - (i.e. Special Adult Film on T.V.)
     - This does not include T.V. shows within appropriate Televison Content Rating System (TV [Y] - TV [14]).
  3. No Sexual Innuendo
  4. No Sexual Intercourse (of any form)
  5. No Sexual Play (ie. foreplay, etc...)
  6. As long as the lounge is {(NSFW)} a Lounges Cam can show any part of the body provided it does not violate the above rules.

Please Note: The rules listed above also pertain to Fubar's Broadcasting Feature.

Lounge Room Rules

Everyone has been asking What are the Rules For Lounge Rooms? This section will give a brief description of Fubar's Lounge Room Rules.

  1. There is to be no TIP JARS of any sort in or among the lounge
    • (This includes linking to members profiles {whether visitor/member or staff}, paypal accounts, fupal transactions, etc...)
  2. Lounge Icons: A lounges Icon cannot be NSFW, even though the Lounge Room may have NSFW in its title, the icon is still viewed on a Public Portion of the site. Any lounge caught with a NSFW icon will have its lounge locked until the icon is change. Repeated offenses will result in the lounge and its owner being perminantly locked or terminated.
  3. There is to be no content that goes against the Terms Of Service
    • (This includes any type of Solicitation, but does not include pre-embeded codes or links as shown below).
    • Stream Provided By: The Darkside Lounge
      <center><embed src="http://tunein.com/embed/player/s158683?autoplay=true" style="width: 400px; height:100px;" scrolling="no" frameborder="no" volume="max" /><br />Stream Provided By: <a style="text-decoration: none; font-weight: 700;" target="_blank" href="/l/69859" rel="nofollow">The Darkside Lounge</a></center>
  4. There is to be no bulletins, promos or any type of bashing that will go against Fubar's Terms Of Service agreement. You may however link two lounges as "Sister Lounges as you (The Owner/Staff) see fit.
  5. A lounge Owner/Staff Member can post their own Lounge Rules provided the Rules have no NSFW language within unless the Lounge has [NSFW] within its Lounge Name.
  6. No Lounge is to remove any part of the sections shown below for any reason. (If done it will be considered a Terms Of Service (TOS) Violation.
    • Top Header
      6d5d94019c004e22a3088633edcb6cf4.png
      Footer Menu
      9f0366a49b9b4a5d81b0c66537c8d8bf.png
  7. Lounges can have Cams, but it will be recommended that the lounge have [NSFW] in its lounge name. This being since noone can truly control what one does on cam (whether it be strip teases, cleavage shots, simple flash of bodily parts, etc...). This is in place so that none of the Cam Rules (Listed Above) are not broken and the lounge does not violate the TOS
  8. A lounge can post premade videos (provided they aren't overtly NSFW or violates the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA for short).
  9. When a lounge has [NSFW] in its Lounge Name the Share Button(s) () will be removed from the Hard Copy of that particular lounge and must remain removed for as long as the lounge is NSFW.
  10. Nudity on cam is permitted provided the lounge is Invite Only, has [NSFW] in its lounge name and (if applicable) the cams are to be
Password Protected (Please Note the Password cannot be listed in the lounge or on any members pages, also note the more you (the Owner/Staff) allow, the more secure that particular lounge should be).
  11. Any lounge that violates the any of the Rules listed above will be given 1 Warning from a Fubar Bouncer. Continuance of said violations will result in either the lounge being terminally locked, deleted or the owner of the lounge's profile will be terminally locked or terminated. Any suspicious activity will be looked into. Any member that witnesses suspicious activity should either get ahold of a Fubar Bouncer, providing them with a link to that lounge and any proof of evidence (screenshots, etc...) the member can provide.
  12. Please Note: Lounge Owners and its Staff is responsible for that lounge. Bouncers will not intervene with member drama within a lounge. It is up to its Owner and Staff to do the appropriate actions to prevent that drama from spreading.
  13. There are more rules not posted here that is located on the Lounge Creation Page or in the Fubar Bible. If you are still wanting to know more about any of these rule please send a private message to Fubar Support, a Fubar Bouncer or the owner of this blog.

The What and The Why
Community Moderation
Fubar.com is a community-moderated site. Fubar Bouncers cannot be everywhere, as much as they try to be. By responsibly and appropriately flagging your own content (whether it be Blogs, Mumms, Pics, etc...), you make their jobs a little easier. By reporting NSFW content you come across, you do your part.
Please know that everything that gets reported is reviewed by a Fubar Bouncer.

Anything that is reported is not flagged until it has been fully reviewed by a Bouncer.

The revieweing Bouncer has the final say on whether to flag the content or clear the content from being reviewed.
Also: be aware that while the person you flag has no reliable way of knowing it was you who reported their content, Bouncers are able to determine this with 100% accuracy. The Bouncers will not rat anyone out, but if they find you are flagging someone's content (whether it be pics, blogs or mumms) purely out of spite, envy or malice, you risk losing your Fubar.com account, irrevocably. Your VIP status, level, and rank does not factor into this equation.

What happens when a picture is marked NSFW?
From a technical standpoint, NSFW content you own is invisible to people who aren't on your friend list. It also will not show up for people who are level 0 (Freshmeat), or people who have the "Show NSFW content" flag in their settings turned off (set to "No"). NSFW Folders can only be seen by those who are on your friends list.
Content that is marked NSFW will also not show up in the "recent" pages on the site (pictures will not appear in "Recent Photos," global MuMMs will not appear in the "Recent MuMMs" list, etc.).
In addition, photos marked NSFW cannot be ripped, submitted as a salute, set as a profile background image or set as a "Primary Image". This is why it is important to mark your NSFW pictures, even if those pictures are in private folders. Someone on your friends list with access to the photo can rip it and use it as his or her primary picture. When that happens and that picture gets marked NSFW, you will also receive a notification that your picture was marked NSFW (in fact, any copies of that picture on Fubar that were ripped from you will also be marked).
Bouncers do this to keep that picture you took of your girlfriend / boyfriend on that special night from floating across the "Online Members Bar" (The floating images at the top of all Fubar.com pages, which shows the primary pictures of people who are currently online.

What if I have something that I believe is sfw? What should I do??
  1. If you believe you have something you think needs looked at, the correct procedure is as follows:
    • Go to the Help Page to contact a bouncer.
      • When Choosing this you can either send a Fubar Bouncer a shout or a private message.
      • Please send the Bouncer you chose a fully detailed message (include links if applicable).
      • This option should be first on your agenda to get something reviewed / looked at.
    • The next step if a Bouncer does not reply in a timely manner is to go to the Fubar Support Lounge.
      • Most Bouncer's will be busy helping Members in the Support Lounge.
      • Politely wait your turn (a bouncer may be busy helping someone else), when it is your turn ask that bouncer nicely if they will review the nsfw item in question
(Their Reply will most likely be: "?whoever?: Please Send link me to the Item you want reviewed / looked at. Thank You").
If the image is in a private folder you may need to add that bouncer as a friend or give them access to the folder the image is located in.
      • Please Do Not Post Links in the "Support Lounge", It will most likely get you Silenced, Ejected or Banned.
    • For both options listed above Please allow the bouncer some time to fully review the item (sometimes they may be asking another bouncer for a second opinion. If it's deemed SFW you will receive an automatically generated private message from the Fubar Office page stating that particular item was unmarked. If the bouncer deems that the item is actually NSFW (a valid flag), that bouncer will explain in their best knowledge why it is NSFW.
    • Please Be Advised: Bouncers are not obligated to unmark anything set as NSFW, even if you believe it is safe for work. Also, bouncers will not go searching through any folder to clear flags from. You must provide them with the link.
    • Also Note: Bouncers have the final say of whether the item is SFW or truly NSFW. Please Do Not Go Bouncer To Bouncer, this will truly do nothing but cause headaches.

Conclusion

This blog is not to be used as a way to go around the Rules by any means and its intentions is to give the member a better understanding as well as the differences between What Is NSFW and What Is SFW.

You will find that communication is the best way to resolve many problems.

If you have any further questions about this or any other topics related to NSFW Items or SFW Items
Please feel free to leave a comment on this blog or private message either a Fubar Bouncer and they will try to help you the best they can.
For faster results you can also visit the Support Lounge and the staff/members will help you to the best of their abilities..
